Wow...a 'not' joke.
What year is this again?
I'm an old fucker, not going to change now. It wasn't a joke, it was sarcasm in an online form, since the internet doesn't convey tone of voice well. For the avoidance of doubt, I think that the statement 'but I'd choose Lucas for the sole reason he has a shot on him' is stupid.

This what I love about SC... well thought out, reasoned, debate.

(Now that, is sarcasm...you old fucker;))

My vote goes to Moura, better finishing, passing, crossing, heading. And more consistent.

I’ve never understood the love in for Lennon. Average player, poor record and shot that couldn’t tear a tissue in half.

Moura was the better player the day he joined.
He walked off the pitch and left us with 10 men also. I was fond of but never classed him as a star.

I dont think we have seen Moura at his prime yet mate. Give it 3 years. Lennon should have been at his prime (27) when he left Spurs and declined.

Its a tough ask because Moura could take his game up a few more notches

Let’s not forget he started very very young . I think avb ruined him, there was a time we played him floating behind the striker and he was electric .

Moura just shaded it for me. I think the full set of eyebrows was the deciding factor. :woot:

Azza made the pass for Crouchie to score against and beat Milan at the San Siro, so he wins it for me. Moura hasn't even broken sweat yet by comparison.

A bit harsh. Yes, he could have had more end product. But he offered a lot tactically because his pace was so dangerous. I remember when we had Bale and Lennon on the flanks with Modric and Parker in the middle and Van der Vaart playing just behind the striker. What a midfield that was.

In terms of first touch, close control and tactical discipline then I'd say Lennon was a class above what we've seen from Lucas so far. However, he had a fair few problems that held him back.

He broke through towards the end of the 4-4-2 era. So whilst he made his name as an effective player in a system that leant itself to bursting forward to the byline and picking out two targets in the box, things evolved and he was now being asked to play as a wing forward, or as a wide player in a 4-5-1, and he never really managed to adapt his game.

Then Sherwood happened. To an extent, AVB started this rot, but Sherwood's coaching was so so poor and Lennon massively regressed. You could tell he Lennon was a massive confidence player from the days that Berbatov used to shout at him when he lost the ball with a shit cross he'd crumble and play terribly. Under Sherwood you could tell that he wasn't enjoying his football at all and stopped trying to take players on, stopped attempting dangerous balls, stopped trying anything creative at all. By the time Poch came in, it looked like he'd lost interest in the game and he decided he was part of the deadwood that needed clearing out.

The true answer to the OP is Lucas would have been worse than Lennon in the Jol/Ramos/Redknapp 4-4-2. But I don't think Lennon would have worked as a wingforward in today's system under Poch. Peak Lennon was a far more effective player than Lucas has been for us so far, but he has plenty of potential to surpass him.

I agree with every word of that.

Lennon was my favourite Spurs player back in the day, the first player I had a name on the shirt

If Poch could train him when he was younger he would’ve been a terrific player

Odd poll. Ask in 3 years time

Lennon was great for us at the time but Poch sold him for a reason. He was meant to be in his prime

Lennon went to another level when he had competition like Routledge and Bentley but sometimes was predictable. Always went around the outside and not a great crosser at all. On his day he was fantastic but never consistently fantastic

Players prime st different ages Lennon primed very early he was very good from the ages 17-23 and never really kick on from there

Azza

Seems some have forgotten how good he was. It’s only now though we know why he didn’t fulfill his massive potential.

Loved how he used to glide past the opponent's player and pass the ball in the corner with his left foot. Classic Lennon move :)
