I don’t think there is any need for the WTF sticker. I am just asking people’s opinion. I didn’t say he was, but I heard it being talked about with other friends I know and wanted to just get peoples take on it.
I agree with the WTF markings being unnecessary. Uncalled for.

And (not a criticism) I do wonder if he'd have been a one club man if he didn't suffer that injury. I guess we'll never know.

He certainly would've had more offers and/or temptation that's for sure. He's spoken in the past about turning down Arsenal and Chelsea but I do sometimes wonder if he'd been less injury prone and e.g. Fergie/Man Utd came in for him whether he'd have been tempted. As you say I guess we'll never know.

And another thing we’ll never know is if Jan would have stayed with us as long as he has had we been a bit shitter & not regularly provided Champions League football ??‍♂️

But Jan is one of (but not the only) the reasons that we’ve played regularly in the CL in the last few seasons.

He’s not a bigger legend than King. King was a phenomenon that rarely put a foot wrong. I remember going to the 5-0 Newcastle match (Harry...we want you to stay), and spending most of the match watching King closely. He was impeccable. As @Archibald&Crooks said, it’s debatable whether he would have stayed if he was fully fit, but he was elite level.

Vertonghen is certainly a brilliant player though, and as good a replacement as we could have got. I love both of them. I do think Vertonghen has games and moments that remind me of King, but King was something special.

I don't think it's a discussion point until JV is done at Spurs, in whatever shape that takes (hopefully trophy laden retirement).

Jan is an excellent defender, truly, but Ledley was a leader and a winner. If Jan has a performance like he did vs Dortmund 1st leg in a cup final and we sit back with a few beers and debate it in 5, 6 years time, then I will tell you.

Until then I find it too soon.

As others have said, currently the main player looking to hit that "legend" category later on, and as things stand, is Harry Kane and even that could change if he followed Poch out the door in a year or two (god forbid).

Love super-Jan. HIs signing has been part of the core of our recent development

BUT

It's Ledley King you'r comparing him too. It's been done to death but without that knee injury he could well have been the most valuable defender of his generation. The fact that he kept coming back and playing to the standard that he did completes his legendary status.

thats my take on it

I'm gonna play devils advocate here & suggest that had Ledley's knee not been so problematic, we possibly could have been talking about one of the best CB's that ever played for Utd, or any other club that could have offered him more silverware. Ledders more than likely wouldn't have stayed around had he been injury free imo.
