Well I guess they finally found something that was causing his discomfort, wouldn't need an operation otherwise.

I do hope the stupid rumours can be put to bed now and some may even feel the need to retract their stupid theories.....

Yes - I hope so.

Unless of course they're using the word 'surgery' to include invasive investigations like an arthroscopy. Hope not.

At least we know whats happening now. Good stuff. Means he's not cracking up or doing an Ade lol. Get fit and we go next season.
Be interesting to see how we sit if a decent offer came in during the summer.
If this surgery puts this problem to bed without risk of further issues I'd keep him.
If not I'd be tempted to sell. No idea how club will feel. Now we wait.
Bit weird how this has been dealt with. Why the secrecy?

I'm not a Dr unlike your good self, but I'd be surprised if in part it wasn't an investigatory surgery as from the scans (according to the club) we are none the wiser.

He's gone on Twitter and said he's gutted that surgery will have to be performed but he's done everything to try to remove the pain but it won't go away and he hopes to come back fighting and stronger, or words to that affect.

It doesn't actually say that they have found an organic, medical cause for the continuing pain. That suggests that the surgery is exploratory in nature.

Also, none of this addresses the main issue with Lamela, which is not about his footballing ability. He has successfully transformed himself into an effective, productive Premiership footballer, by changing his style of play. That shows that he is a resourceful and determined character, far from the person being caricatured on other threads here.

But we cannot keep a player on the books, long-term, if every injury turns into a medical mystery tour and takes 6 months to heal.

Different humans have different bodies. Some footballers bounce back from injury in a few weeks and some have persistent pain. It isn't necessarily strictly a psychological matter - the latest science shows how intricately these things interact - it is possible that this is purely about physiological healing rates and pain perception.

The bottom line is that, if Lamela is going to be crocked for half a season every time he damages something, he has to go play somewhere else.

He could have been terrified to have the op, at the same time the injury could have been restricted him.

He's our version of Sturridge

There has been a lot of cobblers written about this.
1. Lamela not wanting to have an op is understandable if he has had conflicting medical advice, especially if he's also had to contend with conflicting medical advice about his brother. In addition, his first injury at the club took a long time to be diagnosed and managed. I am not aware of him having a bad injury record before a la Sturridge.
2. Surgeons tend to want to operate and it may well be that it is an arthroscopy. That said, given that it has been stated to be due to a muscle, I doubt this is a joint problem.
3. I don't understand how the club can think about making any money on him when he has not shown a complete recovery.
4. Lamela's injury record last season was very good.
5. Hip and back problems can masquerade as each other.
6. Both prolonged absences have to be taken in context of other extenuating circumstances.

He's having an operation to hopefully be fit.

He may still be a Spurs player but no other team would buy him unless he can prove his fitness. I just cannot see him getting back into this current eleven and also cannot see him regaining fitness and wanting to sit on the bench. I can truly see that if this is the case he well want to be like Bentaleb and move for first team football.

A really tough decision for Poch if and when he returns from injury.
