About time we got something more reliable than that clapped out Bentley.

(Thanks, I'll be here all week).

I'd love this signing to happen, he's got the vision 7 passing ability that would really compliment the (hopefully) solid midfield 3 of Dembele, Sandro, Paulinho.. One thing though, the article states,

"Honda, 27, is available on a free after rejecting repeated attempts by the Moscow outfit’s coach Leonid Slutsky to get him to sign a new long-term deal. "

Well he's not out of contract until December 31st, so isn't available on a free yet. Here's a glimpse of his passing ability & what he could potentially offer....

Very talented player, excellent vision and passing range. Can slot in behind the striker or as a wide forward option. I'd take him in a heartbeat.

Would be a superb signing for free if we could get him, extremely gifted player.

He's a very good player but for me Holtby is quite similar, similar and has more potential due to his young age. If there was any player we could get from the Japan team it would be Kagawa, obviously impossible, but the guy is class and a type of player we are really missing right now!

I think Holtby could be the creative spark we need. Give him pre-season, plus I remember his first few games he made some wonderful passes to keep momentum going. Give him a full season before suggesting any other players. Remember, we have Carroll and Ceballos as well.

Played on the right wing a fair bit for CSKA this season. Dzagoev played a lot on the left and Wagner Love played in the hole. Ahmed Musa up top. It was a really fluid attacking 4 with pretty much every player going through the middle extensively.

That being said, Honda's awesome. His best position is as a constantly involved attacking midfielder. He will always show for the ball and generally have a good idea with what to do with it. Absolutely vicious shot and free kick and he's really strong on the ball.

That being said, unless we loan out Carroll and Siggy is going to be on the wing permanently, I'm not sure I see the fit.

If we were to go with a midfield 3, I'd presume that even if we land Paulinho we will want to rotate Dembele/Sandro/Paulinho pretty heavily. The 3rd position will need to be a guy with creative flair and the propensity to keep the attack ticking over. Honda could do that somewhat, but I think the formation would look more like a 4-2-3-1 if that's the case.

Also, after watching them both extensively, Holtby's got a very similar style of attacking play as Honda. He may not have the same shot that Honda has, but in terms of their approach to being a linchpin in attack, they are very comparable.

Perhaps we'll have Sandro, Dembele, Paulinho for those away games to City, United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool. And maybe focus on more attacking when at home. IF we were to sign Honda, then that would definitely signal AVB having more than one formation in mind. Meaning we'll be able to change it up when necessary.

I'm sure he'd attract a fair bit of interest in THFC whilst we were on our pre-season tour of Hong Kong, too? I know he's Japanese but when it comes to the PL, I was of the opinion that any 'Asian superstar' was pretty adored in the Far East?

I was under the impression that the Japanese and the Chinese are not keen on each other. Don't think it would have much of an effect otherwise.

Edit: Bale's the player everyone will come and see. He's the club's selling point.

I was thinking the same thing BUT, seeing as I'm pretty much clueless about anything in the real world, I figured it best to ask if anyone on here thought Honda may help with our profile in the Far East.(y)

As for Bale, apparently the also love AVB over there too.

This has gotten Levy in January on a free all over it

He will most likely be sold before then. CSKA have players who can fill the void he leaves behind and they will want to get a few million from him now. Doumbia should be fine for next season, so they would have Musa on the left, Love behind Doumbia and Dzagoev on the right.

He'll probably fetch a 5-8m Euro fee at this point given his ability, age and great Confeds Cup.

You might be right, but we could get a pre contract sorted before January, arn't players with less than 6 months left on their contracts allowed to do this?

Yes, that's true.

I just think the benefit of selling Honda now and getting a few million will outweigh keeping him around. CSKA have pretty good depth and they usually make some fantastic purchases.
