It does not feel like very long ago when Harry Kane broke into the England team. Less than four years ago, in fact, when Roy Hodgson called the gangly 21-year-old into his squad for the first time. Kane was thrown on for his debut in England’s Wembley qualifier against Lithuania, a second-half substitute for Wayne Rooney. And 79 seconds and three touches later, he had his first England goal, heading in Raheem Sterling’s cross.

Yep another year
and he'll be over the hill(26)
Didn't bother to click
when I read 'gangly'.

File under 'one season wonder',
and 'one man team'.

Why does the press in this country always try to put Harry Kane down and doubt his ability? They are not questioning whether Mohamed Salah or Sadio Mane have reached their peak. I can only presume they support Egypt and Senegal in preference to England. There is no reason to suppose that Harry has reached his peak and hopefully he will go from strength to strength.

Can't get it to load.
Clearly the boy's been brainwashed.
Makes no sense whoever said it.
You're 25 son.
Another 5 peak years minimum ahead.

He says he doesn't know if he's reached peak but that players like ronaldo show you can still be great into your 30's.

Some mainstream media is so obsessed with political correctness when it comes down to minorities, they don't give a damn about patriotism. Patriotism now is almost equal to racism. It's my take on that anyway.

You're spot on. Patriotism IS now considered racism, hence the public warnings about people putting up St George's flags etc during international breaks & tournaments.

We're not allowed to embrace being English, or the culture associated with it anymore, because it's offensive to other fractions of society.

Can't speak about elsewhere in the country, but down here in Penzance, at the school my kids attend, they can't even say the lords prayer anymore because it's apparently offensive towards, or dismissive of other religions.

Basically, England is no more.

I disagree, see this is where it gets dangerous, you've seen what you've wanted to see and made your own narrative to back your view that society thinks that patriotism = racism. The truth is that the media don't give damn about Salah or Mane as they keep their head down and just play football. They tore into Balotelli for his extra-curricular activities!

However we're in England, the press will no doubt focus on England players, especially during international week. It's not political correctness that restrains them from asking these questions about Mane or Salah, it's that it's more relevant to report on the England captain and anything he says or does will be scrutinised more. Furthermore if they were really being politically correct, do you think the tabloids would post half the stuff on Sterling and other young black players who were brought up here? Terry got away with lots of bad things, an affair, racist accusations and being a general prat in public; however he never ever had the negative press treatment Stirling had.

I'd like to see these public warnings. What parts of English culture do you think have been have been marginalised or reduced because of it being offensive to other members of society?

They do slag us off more than any of the other top 6 imo.
I know fans of most teams feel that way but with us its true.
I think its down to us doing well while not having the money of the others. And most media being part of Sky, which would prefer the money clubs lighting the way of their cash cow, or newspapers with reporters who are mostly made up of Arsenal and West Ham fans.
Recently SKY have been talking about VAR and how different the table would look had it been in this season and who do they go after? Us. Not Liverpool with their 9 offside goals given or Man Us ridiculous penalty decision in CL which actually used VAR. In fact if you didnt watch the Man U PSG game but just listened to the media you would think Man U wiped the floor with PSG and it was a fantastic performance when in reality they were shit lucky PSG gifted 2 sitters and the ref/var gifted them the winner against the run of play.
Its also true that the media do not like winners from uk. If we win anything its, yeah but so and so wasnt there or they were injured, Murray winning Wimbledon 1st time round springs to mind. Or they had a easy run in. When other countries sportsman achieve things our media does not analyse it in the same way. Its just 'wow, what a guy/woman.'
Basically they're all tossers lol.
