Steve Bruce wants Onomah on a perm.

"It is going to be difficult, with the loan players we have got,” he conceded. “It is fairly evident we are going to have go up to keep the loan players, otherwise it will be a struggle to hang onto them, either financially or whatever division we are in. “It has taken a little bit of time to get the squad where we are. We have a nice mixture at the moment, obviously there are decisions to make on John Terry and Alan Hutton. “There is still a bit of work to be done. I have to say we have the makings of a very decent squad. The five loan players add to that.

“The first thing we want to do is secure them. I would love to secure them all if we can.

“The loan signings have been instrumental in getting us this far.

“I can’t thank them enough for what they’ve done.

“They’ve been terrific for us, our loan signings.”

This is a tricky one. Half of me wants to see him establish in the first team but the second half doesn't think he got what it takes and would be happy to see him go

Bruce doesn't play Josh enough and when he does its rarely in his preferred position. Not sure a further loan would be in anyone's interest. Better to see how he performs pre-season with us.

Sell with a pre agreed buy back option.

Lacks the maturity and aggression to be of any use to us at the moment.

He'd be mad to sign for them. Would be better signing for a promotion chasing championship side who will give him starts in CM.

Hoping latest info that Poch wants to work with him means still has a chance here.

As we’re being linked to a lot of wide attackers he may be a nice bonus if he can achieve what a lot us thought he could do - replace Dembele in the team.

Winks is getting surgery for his ankle issues and his rehab will probably run into late September/ early October. Ample time for Onomah to get in during pre-season and show Poch and the coaches that he's ready to play a role for us. I think Josh is a really talented player who just needs that chance to show everyone how good he can be as a CM.

Exactly, Onomah has to seize these opportunities to impress Poch during the preseason and potentially the early part of the season. I think if Josh can get some consistent playing time with us (at his preferred position) he will perform well and be a good option for us as a CM. Additionally, if he is successful it will be another example to our young players that if you want a spot on the first team, there is a pathway.

Whenever he has played recently he has been very impressive imo.

Tackling, intercepting, taking players on, passing well.

Villa fans just don't give him credit because he isn't theirs.

Also Bruce is a weird one, sometimes the tactics they use are so bad, but they've got to the playoff final, so credit to him.

Get him back, give him a good preseason with a few games in central midfield and see how he does. He should have his chance to do that with injuries and players away at the World Cup needing rest on their return.

If he doesn’t get that chance, then I think we can finally put to bed him ever getting a chance in that position under Poch I’m afraid.

This year at Villa will have helped him. I think it would be short sighted to sell him this summer particularly if we are moving Dembele and Wanyama on

Believe it's now or never with Josh.
We are making changes to the midfield area so if he has any chance of making it with us it's now. Season on loan will have done him good, now he needs to show how much he has progressed to Poch pre-season when others away.
Concern is that Herc has mentioned carrying an injury whilst at Villa, hope that doesn't hold him back.
If we buy a couple for midfielders then there will be no space for him.

I have been totally wrong with other midfielders I thought Bentaleb would be a star and Mason both having long career in our midfield.

Always liked Onomah he imo has all the attributes I just hope Pochettinho gets it out of him.

I doubt it would cost us much (other than wages) to hold onto him for another year, in terms of an eventual transfer fee - either we see if he settles around the squad and shows some form or send him on loan again, although the latter doesn't tell us as much about his determination to push on i think.

Definitely a key year for him though, time to show Poch what he can do.

I feel like people forget how highly rated Onomah was, coming through our academy - he could still be a top player.

Great info about how he's regarded at Villa. Good to see him get a chance in pre-season.

i still think Bentaleb is a quality player. he was just ill suited to play the role Pochettino asked him to play for the season he and Mason started most of our games as our two midfielders.

if anyone was going to take over from Dembele long term, it should have been Bentaleb. but as good as he is, his attitude is his biggest problem.

as for Onomah, i still firmly believe he is good enough to play for Tottenham. he reminds me too much of Michael Carrick for me to sell him.
