I dont think we should be looking past Mike Maignon.
He seems more like the Dybala/Gvardiol/Bastoni top tier target that we would have as our primary choice but we wouldn’t be able to get him either due to financial reasons or he would be aiming higher

Maignan was such an obvious signing to take over for Lloris long term back when he was still in France.
Don't know if he's realistic now.

Agreed. He's likely to cost 3-4 times as much as Raya, due to his longer contract duration, the fact that he currently plays for a bigger club, and his greater exposure to the "world stage" (competes in the Champions League and has more international caps). He's also likely to have more "big" clubs in for him. Us getting knocked out by AC Milan in the CL this season will hardly have increased his desire to join us.

Raya will be available for below market value and we're a clear step up from Brentford. Seems like a logical target, unless we're confident of securing a deal for someone better. I'm not of the mindset that we should restrict ourselves to a HG option or that we should skimp on the transfer fee of a GK compared to other positions, but I'd rather secure a very good GK in July than spend the summer making enquiries about unattainable targets and then ending up with no-one. Brentford would be foolish to sell Raya on deadline day, leaving no time to find an adequate replacement, once we've exhausted all other options.

We should only be looking to get Raya
Raya has holes in his game too. Dont think hes better than pickford. Pickford is a talented goalkeeper think he just isnt a calming figure can make mistakes too.

Mind, I was set against this but he would suit Pochs way of playing were he to come back.

Ideally it would be neither.

I think our defence needs a calming influence as much as a ball player.
raya over Pickford any day.
but I agree there may be better keepers out there to sign

Forget Pickford...
Overated imo

Mike Maignan from Milan far far better option, probably alot less money.
He has been amazing for Milan

🙏
There are a lot of options on the market and I just don't get it why our board has decided to strengthen this position only now. Miagnan was bought for €15.30m. I mean we are aiming at to be at least top 4 EPL team, but I doubt that our goalkeeper is in the top 10 among EPL's goalkeepers. It is the position where you can buy a top player for a reasonable money.

Hugo was a top 10 goalkeeeper heading into this season. GK wasn’t a priority for anyone. We tried an understudy with Gollini and got it wrong (at least from a football perspective, was smart to structure as a loan with option). What we should’ve been focusing on was upgrades at CB.

Maybe not a top 10 GK this season but he is still the club captain, and probably performs better without Eric Dier in front of him.

That is the issue. We just wait for the moment when someone's form fall off a cliff to start planning. We did not upgrade our backline and Lloris performance has been inconsistent probably for recent 18-15 months. Nobody needs a silly money to upgrade a GK slot. Anyway I cannot say that you don't have a reason. You do have.

No way is Maignan cheaper than Pickford
Agree that Maignan would defo cost more, but can still see Everton asking silly money for Pickford given he's the England keeper, is homegrown, and has 4 years left on his deal.

Different story if they go down I suppose. They'll be so financially fucked with zero leverage - will be like the Leeds fire sale all over again.

Pickford signed a new contract recently despite his excellent form over the past two-three years, tons of links to bigger clubs and the possibility of Everton getting relegated - I'd be stunned if he doesn't have a release fee in the new deal, at least if they do go down.

Maignan seems unlikely at first glance but the more I've thought about it, the more I think it could be possible. Obviously if Milan ask for crazy money then it won't happen, but I don't think there would be a huge amount of competition for him simply because there aren't many clubs out there in need of a new keeper.

United seem intent on getting De Gea locked down for another five years for some mad reason, Kepa has re-established himself at Chelsea to the point that he is now the captain in Silva's absence, and pretty much every other big club - Madrid, Barca, Bayern, PSG, Arsenal, City, Liverpool - already has a clear number one that doesn't look likely to go anywhere. I know Oblak hasn't had a good season at Atletico and I don't know much about Dortmund's keeper Kobel, so maybe those would be potential rivals for his signing?

The long and short of it is that it should be very easy to replace Lloris this summer. Firstly, there are a huge number of very good goalkeepers around nowadays, it's not like with elite strikers where every top club is chasing one of three or four players. There are very good goalkeepers at much smaller clubs than us.

Secondly, Lloris has dropped off so much over the past few years, so the bar is pretty low. I'd honestly say it's got to the point where he's one of the worst first choice goalkeepers in the PL now - off the top of my head I can only think of Danny Ward and Robert Sanchez that are worse. It's one thing not having a goalkeeper as good as your rivals for European places, but when the majority of the sides battling relegation have better options you have to start asking questions.
