He's actually quite a good defender and is decent on the ball as well.

People seem to think that Fazio and Chiriches aren't good enough, and presumably Kaboul is off so we will need some cover.

I reckon he's better than Chiriches, so would actually strengthen us as the Vertonghen alternative.

But ultimately his status as a United player means he'll be too expensive and there are probably better value alternatives out there.

Man Utd are going through changes. I expect that the summer will see even more signings. With that in mind, I would expect to see quite a few outgoings. I do like Smalling - as a centre back - but there will be other 'bargains' out there. The question now would be would Man Utd sell to us as direct competitors?

Why would Evans come to Spurs and be a bit part player when he's already that at United? Surely he would want to go to a club and be first choice - Captain even, someone that the buyers would want to build their defence around.

He is a much better player than many give him credit for - he is genuinely two footed and decent on the ball - he has been unlucky with injuries over the last few years.
