Haven't bought a player from Germany since Son and no one from Spain since Soldado. Bizarre from countries that produce so much talent. If they aren't from England, France or Holland, we don't pay attention anymore it seems.
I do wonder sometimes about how extensive our scouting network is.

Edit: If we can't compete with the big clubs financially yet, then surely it's even more important to get an edge in identifying players.

VVD plays on the left of a two and he's right footed isn't he? Don't think it matter myself. If this guy is good I am not overly bothered if he plays left or right and also Vertonghen will hopefully be with us longer than Toby so more pressing we replace him if he goes in the summer as most expect

Tottenham Hotspur view Sampdoria’s Joachim Andersen as the likeliest replacement for Toby Alderweireld, should the Belgian leave in the summer.

The club have extended Alderweireld’s contract by a year, but the terms of the deal mean a clause can be actioned so that he can go for £25m this summer with Tottenham unable to do anything about it.

That has naturally led the club to make alternative plans – particularly with Paris Saint-Germain interested in Alderweireld – and Andersen is seen as the top possible replacement.

The 22-year-old Danish international has progressed hugely at Sampdoria over the last year, and clubs like Manchester United have similarly be looking at the youngster. Andersen would likely cost around £35m.

Standing at over 6ft 2in, the commanding centre-half has made 16 caps for his country, and moved from the Eredivisie’s FC Twente in August 2017.

Note that he hasn't been capped at the senior level for Denmark, his 17 caps are at the youth level. As a Dane, I haven't heard much about him TBH. But Denmark is stacked with talent at CB.

Yeah, he’s been in shadow of Andreas Christensen you could say but the noises from Italy has been very good I think.

I guess we are in the unusual situation whereby succession planning will not hurt our bargaining when it comes to selling Toby. If true a buy and loan back until the summer would be interesting. The club and Toby would have to be dead set on not agreeing a deal however.

They'd also have to be pretty sure of Dier staying as a DM primarily also.

From the Toby thread if anyone didn’t read it.

The vibe here in Denmark is pretty high. Joachim looks like he has been playing in the Serie A for a decade and is tipped to have a very bright future ahead of him. We're pretty good at developing CB's in Denmark with Daniel Agger, Simon Kjær, Andreas Christensen etc.

His father and agent is saying top6 in England/Italy is interested, but don't think a move will happen in january. However they're of course willing to meet the top clubs if they want a meeting.
