Afternoon all,

We've got an exclusive Spurs story for you today: Tottenham are keen to sign Ajax right-back/centre-back Joël Veltman this summer. He's highly rated in Amsterdam and there's plenty to suggest he'd be a good addition in either a back three or back four for Mauricio Pochettino's men.

Here's the story and what we make of him:

Would make sense in that he could cover RB or RCB in a back 3. Would almost cover the loss of Walker and Wimmer with a single signing although we could do with a left sided CB to cover Vertonghen. Not sure where it would leave CCV though.

Veltman or Ginter would make a lot of sense considering we play back three at times and would need a more defensive cover if Walker leaves than the wing backs we already got.

I think if, as it appears, Walker is off, there's definitely some mileage to be had in bringing in a player capable of playing RCB and RB/RWB, maybe not as attack minded Walker, but a similar to Davies on the left. Then signing Sessegnon and promoting Walker-Peters, as 2nd/3rd choice fullbacks.

RB - Trippier, Veltman/Ginter, Walker-Peters
LB - Rose, Davies, Sessegnon
RCB - Dier, (Veltman/Ginter), Carter-Vickers
CB - Alderweireld, (Dier/Vertonghen)
LCB - Vertonghen, Wimmer, (Davies)

11 players to cover 5 positions, including 3 that are 20 or under. Flexibility tactical during games, but also game to game, rotation around injuries and suspensions should be easier to cover and allow for more gametime.
Walker's fee would more than cover signing Sessegnon and Veltman/Ginter.

This link has been there for a number of weeks.

Is Football Whispers ITK? If so, have you been verified by @Rob and @Archibald&Crooks

I know there's a deal to bring your content to the site to support the running costs, which I think is great as it helps SC.

However, I'd like to think that the rules remain on these boards and, if you're bringing us an exclusive, it'd be good to know you're a verified source for such a thing.

Sorry if that comes across wrong. It's just that the guys have worked really hard to filter out unverified sources and WUMs over the past few years and the Transfer boards are much better as a result.

Good questions :) Just waiting on clarification.

I thought we were after a LCB to replace Wimmer and also, JJ poo poo'd the Veltman link about a week or so back although we know things can change.

From my understanding, FW takes all the "chatter" on the web and makes projections on moves. So far, I would say they have a 1% hit rate as their published work on ESPNFC is absolute WUM stuff.

So in short, take these articles with a grain of salt and realize they are just trying to get ad revenue.

Harsh, but my two cents.

I think these types of articles are more useful than the ones that were in General chat. Identify a supposed target and do a scouting job on them. Good for a quick read up on a purported target.

not sure about the exclusively reveal Spurs interest slant though, the article seems completely devoid of even a vague statement/description on the type of source.

EDIT - I see rob is on it

Somebody's been playing Football Manager. We dont need 11 players for 5 positions, especially when you consider that Poch doesnt really rotate CB's.

Yeah I get that, but they said that they can 'exclusively reveal' that Veltman is a target.

To me that suggests they are claiming to have a source of information. If so, and the article is posted in the forum, then like others who make such a claim I'd personally like to know if the mods consider the source as credible.

If not, then I haven't got a problem with them posting an informative piece (it's actually a pretty good read) but they should change the thread title as it's misleading - and we all remember Adiepf and the Twitter thread!

If we signed Veltman then I'd expect it to be as more of a replacement for Wimmer rather than Walker.

Trippier could step up as first choice RB and then we'd have KWP as his main backup and Veltman able to cover in a pinch if needed.

Signing Veltman, would IMO, allow Dier to continue to operate more in CM where he is a far better player than at CB.

Agree but Dier is not going to replace Wanyama any time soon. I doubt anyone will replace Dier just give more options and cover for cup and injuries.
