Sorry, but we are not gonna win games against the big 4 without him, and we couldn't even score against Stoke. Harry just brushed it off as one of those days, I put it down to a very blunt strike force.

He is our only decent striker imo, and no goals in the past two weeks just reinforces my opinion.

I dont rate the beanpole and Keane is past it, Pav may be an option but needs to get off the bench and onto the pitch.

If we are gonna be a top for team we need to be able to score goals and with our current strike force that just aint gonna happen imo.

Mind you a good DM would have been handy last night as well.

Defoe has rarely ever troubled the 'big 4' teams with many goals, we have one striker who has consistently scored goals against the top teams but most fans seem to be writing him off after an admittedly poor run of form.

I don't see how we would have fared much better with him in the team today.

It wasnt because there was no Defoe, it was because an off-form Keane was being played when someone else wouldve fared better. There was no shape in the team, what with KEane being asked to start on the left, but constantly drifting up, down, centre.

Playing Krancjar or Bale from the start in place of Keane wouldve been a better option by miles, but no, Dopey Eyes chose to play his captain no matter what. That was the cause of the downfall.

Defoe has been quality since he returned to us....unlike Keane who has generally been poor. The depressing thing yesterday was that you knew that Keane was never going to get 'there'....Defoes pace/edge is all important for us and fortunately we don't play the big 3 every week

Defoe was missed. But it's Modric who makes us tick. He also creates so much and moves the ball so accurately and quickly that it stretches the opposition. Combine that with Palacios's discipline and ground-covering, Jenas' workrate and drive, and Lennon's raw pace and any half-decent striker would be likely to get a hatful.

The last 2 Premiership games have shown why Defoe is so importnat to us. He has some spark and desperately desperately wants to score goals. We lack punch, pace and the threat of running in behind defenders without him.

When Defoe doesn't play teams can hold a higher line against us and squeeze up the play because unless we spring Lennon nobody is going to get away from them.

Also Crouch who has battled his nads off must be longing for Defoe to be buzzing in and around his areas looking for opportunities.

We can't expect any sort of impact from Pav, he simply hasn'y played enough football to have any sort of sharpness.

Our frontline is becoming increasingly dependent on JD. The sad side of it is that Darren Bent would probably have done well in JD's absence alongside Crouch.

I wonder if those fans defending Defoe's petulance, are now reconsidering their view point?

Still, we were 3 of our top players hsort yesterday - 3 of our most dangerous attacking players in Modric, Lennon and Defoe.

We will get better, and I don't think we are that far behind to not compete - still I reckon there could be four teams challening for that fourth spot - liverpool, city, villa and ourselves.

Good year I reckon.

I dont rate the beanpole.

i most definitely do rate the beanpole. without lennon and modric, our most creative midfielders, and stuck with out-of-sorts keane as a partner it's little wonder crouch isn't scoring. when defoe and azza get back, we'll play crouch and defoe up front and they'll be quality

I'm glad in a way about the last two games, because in my opinion is shows beyond any doubt that Defoe is our best striker.

Not just in terms of goals, but mainly his movement. Stoke was a prime example of how we miss his movement. We tried to play everything through the middle, which Stoke's defence lapped up because Crouch and Keane were pretty static.

Defoe is always on his toes and constantly on the move. I know people moan about him being offside sometimes, but his movement is so key for us. He draws defenders out of position by moving across the back four and creates space for himself and others, give him half a yard and he'll find a gap to shoot.

He is bar far the best finisher at the Club. Yes, Keane on his day is a good player, I'm not getting on his back, but I think Defoe is by far the more prolific, especially this season.
