I'm kind of confused why he seems to be THAT cheap. Ok, he has only got one year left on his contract, but he was still a starter for the German U21-team. Surely they could ask for a lot more and teams would stil pay it?

Hoffenheim aren't a rich team. But they have done well to be in CL this year with their 29 yrd old manager.

Moreover, there were 2 other Fullbacks who played more minutes than Toljan. He is certainly not their first choice as he more or less had a Trippier like back up role last year. The 3 FBs were rotated heavily. Given all these, I would think they will let go off Toljan , if he isnt signing a new contract. They arent going to run his contract down & let him leave on a free

A couple of days ago Sport Witness covered an article from Record which referred to Jeremy Toljan and Tottenham. The Portuguese newspaper explained Benfica had been very interested, but were now walking away, because they believe Toljan is very close to signing for Spurs.

Record didn’t elaborate further, and haven’t said anything since, but the story quickly spread out across the English media, and has made its way to Germany.

Bild say Tottenham are ‘hot’ on Toljan, but don’t pretend it’s their scoop, crediting Record with the claim.

The German newspaper do add their own bits, though. Toljan’s market value, via Transfermarkrt, is €3.5m, and Bild believe the player could leave for an amount around this, because his contract ends next summer.

That amount is ‘peanuts’ for Tottenham, reckon Bild, and it’s probably the reason Benfica were interested in the first place.

Interestingly, Bild quote Hoffenheim director of football Alex Rosen as recently saying: “If Tottenham comes up offering him three-fold salary, then you can wrongly say: London is an unattractive city, or Tottenham is a bad club.”

It’s hard to work out if there’s something genuine here, or if speculation is feeding speculation, and the whole thing living off itself.

A fee of €3.5m would be a remarkably cheap investment in a right back after the sale of Kyle Walker.

Remember Unger from Turkey was about to sign after all being supposedly agreed. What happen there ? Looks to me as if we are being used once again to drum up business.

You are comparing Toljan BundesLiga stats to Pereira's Europa League stats...
Pereira is better in Ligue1. But then comapring these two is comparing apples & oranges anyway as one has played half the time as the other

My bad, i didn't notice.

If he is of Ryan Sessegnon talent - great move. If he is still developing and on par with KWP i don't get it. It offers us no further quality in squad depth or fierce competition with Trips.

Have to question our scouting after this, perriera at a low cost compared to this guy it's like
Choosing Bertrand over Kyle naughton and to be fair I like Kyle
Naughton but this is a weak decision very disappointing if true

Based on the what, three games you've seen of him? I'm not going to give it the cliche 'have to trust Poch with this', but saying you're questioning the scouting makes it seem like you're better informed than them or have a better understanding of the game, which I'm inclined to disagree with...

I don't believe we have had specific ITK on him, but @Breezer has mentioned about a 'German Youngster' we were looking at, may be him!

Guys, the 'German Youngster' was mentioned by Ali Z. Ali Z later clarified that Yassin Ayoub was the player he was referring to (who is actually Dutch/Moroccan but whatevs) and he's apparently going to a Turkish club.

Exactly as I suspected. Bild aren't actually saying anything new and are essentially summing up what Record said, whilst also not knowing how much Hoffenheim will sell him for. Can't wait for people to comment on how cheap he is everywhere despite them getting his 'market value' from a website.

Tottenham monitoring versatile full-back Jeremy Toljan of Hoffenheim

SIMON JONES:
Tottenham Hotspur are showing interest in Hoffenheim full-back Jeremy Toljan.

The promising 22-year-old can play on the right or left of defence and is seen as ideal competition for Kieran Trippier, Danny Rose and Ben Davies.

Tottenham had targeted Ricardo Pereira of Porto but negotiations have become complicated over his third party ownership and £20million valuation.

Toljan, who was on holiday recently with former Arsenal winger Serge Gnabry, was part of Germany's 2016 Olympic silver medal winning squad and played for their Under 21s in the European Championships this summer, earning a place in the team of the tournament.
Tottenham are considering other options too but recognise Toljan has one year left on contract and could leave for a relatively low fee.

Hoffenheim’s director of football Alex Rosen asked about Tottenham's interest told Bild:

'If Tottenham comes and offers to triple your salary, then you can’t say too many negative things: London is an unattractive city or Tottenham a bad club. This is all very positive – and then young people think about it.'

Can honestly say i have never seen this lad play, or know anything about him. But at the prices being talked about it seems a no brainer to me. German u21 international (so must be half decent) for peanuts.
