The only thing Vincent Janssen has been guilty of since joining Tottenham is not being Harry Kane, and that says far more about the ability of the young England forward.

Lineker didn't need to have a nasty streak. It just comes down to two things: ability and confidence. I'm sure Janssen has some quality, otherwise we wouldn't have signed him. So maybe it's all in his head. Either way, he'll get one more season and then we'll probably cut our losses and move on.

Very well written article. I agree with most of it. It's obvious that there's a good player in Janssen and his hold up play is real nice. And he is involved in a whole lot more goals for us than most think.

I'm not sure if he needs a bonafide mean streak. But I agree he needs to develop some more confidence and a more dominant personality on the pitch to get the most out of him

From October 2016, slow news day?;)
Janssen looked a lot better towards the end of the season. There is only so much he can do with Kane around.

I like Janssen he just needs more time to settle as his game time was limited last season. He lacks confidence in his ability due to Kane's form and who can blame him for that being in the shadow of the best striker in the Premiership. He always gives 100% when he plays but tries just too hard at times so this overrides his natural instinct. Some more game time and a few goals will make the difference next season.

If anything, I'd say Janssen gets caught up in the physical arm wrestling too easily and needs to work on finding some room to work in. He seems perfectly capable of looking after himself but not so good at finding little pockets of space to work in.

Agreed on the trying too hard. Easier said than done but he needs to relax and enjoy the game, but anxiety is there and can be so hard to shift. I think of it like me and golf, I can hit perfectly well (er more OK than perfect to be more accurate) at the driving range but try to power it on the course no matter how many times I'm telling myself to relax and it goes nowhere. I believe he can overcome it and hope it's at Spurs.

I'm sorry but the 'he needs more time' excuse just doesn't wash with me...except if you use it in the context that he is 'off the pace' of the premiership game. Janssen needs time that is just not available at the level we are playing at and also striving for. I am genuinely sorry for the lad but he just doesn't suit our needs at present. I may be wrong and another season will see him step up that required gear...I sincerely hope so and would be the first to applaud his improvement. There is no doubting his commitment and effort.

" with his ample posterior often working overtime to shield the ball from probing defenders"....what about on the pitch?
