It's always surprised me that no Dutch team have come in for him. Maybe his wages are too high for them, but he was Holland's number 9.

It's easy for me to say - it's not my money but that would have been a good opportunity to prove himself again.

Things seem to have gone so wrong for him! You would have thought championship at worst

I think there is something seriously wrong behind the scenes.
I really cannot see how this has happened to a starting international striker.

Good luck to him.
Despite hard work & good hold up play, it didn't work out - like Soldado before him.
As others have said, I hope we've learned from it. Just because someone bangs in a ton of goals elsewhere, it doesn't mean they're right for us.

Even Newcastle don't have a striker on their books. Well wish him the best, I know I have seen even worst strikers compared to janssen.

Out of curiosity I just went back and watched a compilation of his goals for AZ Alkmaar. In hindsight the warning signs were there: about half his goals were due to terrible defending and he was obviously very immobile.

However he did score a handful of nice finishes (a couple of excellent headers) and made a few good flicks to set up others. Thinking back to his first few matches for us I recall him very nearly scoring a few and his link up play being decent. However, once he lost his confidence he became a completely useless lump and his injuries compounded matters. I don't think he ever recovered from the disappointment of his big move not working out.

Undeniably a bad signing due to questionable scouting - a slow grafter on a 6 month hot streak in the Dutch league doesn't exactly scream "guaranteed hit" - but I suspect he's capable of a lot more than we saw at Spurs. Defo not a PL striker though.

I don’t get this. His link up play was Prem quality for sure, he just didn’t score. It’s not as if he was totally out of his depth or anything...so strange...just makes no sense. He’s athletic enough and even quick-minded enough to play the game at a high level- AT LEAST CHAMPIONSHIOP LEVEL- and yet now he’s going to the Mexican League?!? Not even MLS?!?

Mind boggling.
