Jan Vertonghen's agent has discussed summer move with Roma

If we're going to lose him, I'd be very disappointed for it to be to a team like Roma, who to be honest, I think are just a flash in the pan. It was only last summer that one of their best players moved to us. If he went there it would only be for 2 years tops
Perhaps they got better once they flogged us a lame player...

Would usually be gutted to lose a player of Vertonghen's ability but imo he's been a miserable cock this season and his "performances" have illustrated that.
I'm also not convinced he's injured. I really wouldn't be surprised if Dim has twigged that he's been a massive liability.

Writing was on the wall last season when he was moaning about filling in at LB... then he's had to play alongside Danny Rose, who wouldn't want to leave?
Think the geezer has been half the player he was last season though and his attitude really has left a lot to be desired.

So the fact that Jan has a contract with us, has not requested to be transferred and is not on the transfer list from our end, why did Roma choose to speak to his agent and not the club? I don't see anywhere in that article where it says the club are aware of this situation.

FIFA, UEFA, EPL, FA - they all talk the talk about stamping out tapping up but lets be honest, it's going on and will continue to go on and they will continue to do FA about it.

However, there is always the chance that this agent is being very agenty and acting like one of the members of the ****-of-the-earth army, and even if he met those guys by chance over a spilled drink, went running to the media to get himself and his client some publicity.

Hahaha. The source is a joke (tuttomercato that is not the article site). I would pay no attention to it (also I doubt Roma will be able to afford Vertonghen).

For £25m? I would have little trouble with letting him go, if he really thinks Roma is a step up from this club. Too bad for him, when we gel perfectly under the new manager next season, and Roma struggle in the CL!

Think he just want a hefty pay rise, though. Not sure if he has earned it, but that's not for me to decide.

The distance that Vertonghen's star has fallen among the fans is some different level shit

On his day one of our best players but not sure we'd notice him not there at the moment and frankly I'm tired of his petulant face

Still, here's to this being garbage, him taking some happy pills and ripping it up at Spurs next season

Now where's that 'optimistic' emoji...?

So, hope we get good money for him, heads dropped to many times this season, the Liverpool kick on the foot was the final nail in the coffin, I wont miss him!

Decent player, too slow and moody to be really top class
but at the moment we would miss him at his best.
Something we have barely seen this season.

Looks like we will have to wait until Man.Utd
have had the pick of the best managers available
before we can seal anything and settle the players.
Some might be gone before we get a a new manager
especially our best.
Even more will go if we stick with Tim.
Except Bentaleb and Harry Kane of course.

I think closer to home City and Liverpool both need a centre half and with his premier league experience, they may consider him.

We could be in a bit of trouble at centre half. If his head's gone & wants out, it won't be a fast conclusion with the World Cup, a lack of coach/manager and Levy trying to eke out the maximum fee (arguably spot on in this case given the contract length).
Add to this Dawson's had his day judging by this season's level of performace, Kaboul is never going to be the player he was 2 years ago and Chiriches is wet behind the ears and needs experience alongside him.
And we started last year with 5 all fighting for 2 places...

Things won't settle down until Spurs' hire a new Manager....as of now the club probably is having to change plans, or is just kept in the dark regarding whether VdG is interested in the job.
Thank you (again) f*****g Manchester United.

If we ever needed a summer where the club stood firm and kept the players they wanted, this is it.

I reckon Lloris and Vertonghen will be sought after, the former because he's a world class performer, and the latter based on some hope that he'll be able to get back to the form from before april 2013.

Vertonghen on current form is no world beater, but selling him would send out the wrong signals to the rest of the players, potential targets and the fans.

This summer, many clubs that are above us in the pecking order (Man Utd, Barcelona, Man City) will be looking at centre backs. Replacing Vertonghen in that climate will prove difficult.

I think Barca are going to run riot with signings before there ban kicks in, they have had a stay of execution at the moment.

There is no guarantee that LVG is Utd's first choice. However, it would appear that he is keeping his options open in case Utd do come calling. If this was to drag on for weeks or even months, it would be disastrous for Spurs.
I think we should move on, forget LVG and go for someone else. Show a bit of strength and determination. It might even scare LVG into action.

Hopefully United move quickly for their new guy.

I can't stand Jan.

Clearly our most talented defender, but he is a worse player now than when he joined.

I would sell him in a heartbeat.

When Sherwood had his rant after the Chelsea game, I was actually glad because I thought it was all aimed at the spineless Belgian.

But then he picked him the week after.

Their is no greater coward in our squad than Jan.

Him and Danny Rose would be the first two I got rid off.
