I know a previous thread was removed because there'd been no link from a credible source, but hoping it's okay to post now that more mainstream outlets such as AS are linking us.

https://readbundesliga.com/2019/01/...ames-rodriguez-in-deal-for-christian-eriksen/

AS reporting that RM would look at including him as part of a deal for Christian Eriksen.

There've also been several reports this month linking him with a loan-to-buy move to Arsenal.

Considered starting a thread myself, but bottled it.

He obviously has ability, but his work-rate has often been questioned. Be great to bring him in on loan this month with a view to a permanent deal, but almost everything I've read seems to suggest it'd only be as a makeweight in a deal for Eriksen in the summer.

Maybe we could offer a first option on Eriksen if they were to loan us James - although I don't even know if his loan with Bayern can be terminated early.

The fact he's been heavily linked with Arsenal this month suggests there must be some get-out clause in the Bayern loan, I'd imagine.

I agree he could be a good loan signing for us this month, with a view to making it permanent if he performs (and if the player wants to move, of course)

Not sure about him - there's obviously a problem there, perhaps on a personal level. Real don't want him, Bayern don't want him... there's a question mark there, even if his stats are reasonable.

Not a replacement for Eriksen imo

Very much a mixed bag there, two saying he should stay and two saying his time's up. The main reasons they seem to be giving for him not staying is that he's sometimes too vocal about not getting the playing time he wants, and that he often doesn't seem happy there.

This take was encouraging:

Let’s take a moment to review James’s debut season with Bayern. The Colombian scored 8 goals and provided 11 assists in 39 appearances. There’s no arguing that he doesn’t make his teammates better when he plays. That’s precisely what Bayern needs as it moves forward in its transition from experience to youth. We need someone that is able to boss the midfield in possession, let the developing talents shine, and when required take on a man by himself to score a crucial goal.

It’s not hard to see the young prospects Bayern is stockpiling — think Davies, Gnabry, Goretzka, (Hudson-Odoi?) — benefiting greatly from the expertise and enabling power that James possesses. James has great quality on the ball, gives other players opportunities to make moves, and then uses his incredible vision and sense of the game to supply them with a pass they can dosomething with.

Unfortunately, we’ve forgotten about James’s style of play because we haven’t seen him much this year due to injury. But even this season, James has shown his off-the-ball quality in addition to his standard strengths. If other players aren’t able to make a breakthrough, he can get it done himself. All of these points of his multi-faceted game show just how important he can be in Bayern’s future. He may be 27, but he can make a major impact for years to come. That’s why ensuring he’s wearing red and white for next season and beyond should be critical in Bayern’s plans

The thing is though, if Bayern hear that he may be sold to us there are two outcomes (as I see it):
1. They buy him via their clause. That is if they want him.
2. They don't buy him. If they don't, I would be worried since the signs are there that he could have issues like we have been talking about here.

Which is why I don't see this happening for us at all. Good or bad, I don't know.

Presumably their clause becomes null and void if the player or the parent club terminate the loan agreement?

There's every chance he doesn't actually want to stay there, hence being linked elsewhere.

FYI James Rodriguez was excused from training by Bayern today with no explanation given by the manager.

I don't think Bayern would be stupid enough to leave that possibility open. Imagine if he started to become good during his time there and Real suddenly recall him and sell him for more to someone else.

Have a feeling he might be one of the 2 we're in for according to ITK - but the one we're not confident on.

I really couldn't see Perez giving Bayern (or anyone) that much leverage over the ownership of a Real player, to the detriment of Madrid's own interests

True. But I don't think Bayern would have agreed to the loan in the first place. When it comes to business I consider Bayern to be smarter than Real.

I can't even fathom. This would be generate "VdV incoming" levels of excitement if he came this window.

Oh mate. If we brought James in then Jack Grealish and I would be history, and that's all I'm saying on the matter at this point.

Okay, well my question is, does he have enough to offer Spurs moving forward? (I understand that you can't find an imediate like for like replacement compared to what Eriksen brings us)
