Harry Kane? He's on £200k per week, plays for a team in the Champions League, has just captained his nation to a World Cup semi final and has earned his status as one of the best in the World doing so.

Jack Grealish will be 24 pretty much by the first time he genuinely tests himself as an established player in the Premier League. The difference is chalk and cheese mate have a word
Kane could easily have gone to Real Madrid or some other uber club, earned more money and competed for every trophy if he kicked up a fuss. Instead he signed a long term contract with a club that's only won two League Cups since he was born, partially because it's his club. He was called a coward who lacked ambition by other fans. They were rightly laughed at on here.

But it's fine to say Grealish has a weak mentality for not acting like a **** to his boyhood club who all his family support, and maybe signing a contract that benefits both him and his club? He should he applauded for his behaviour and he's gone up in my estimation.

Grealish doesn't have a weak mentality as he clearly wanted to join but the brakes were put on. He's behaved admirably since the deal was put off as he should with it being his boyhood club but when it comes to becoming a player that can fulfill his potential it has to be at a proper club like Spurs.

Comparing Tottenham to Villa, especially the Villa they were when negotiations started long before the money came in over there is chalk and cheese. At Villa you don't get global exposure, you don't get close to the national team, you lose out in so much marketing &a branding money, your life stays very different to when you get to play for Tottenham at the moment. Tottenham compete, Villa don't, they're literally not in the same league as Spurs at the moment

Hercules questioned his mentality, at least that's what I read into what he said. It was a ridiculous to do so. Just as fans saying them things about Kane was. That was my general point.

So do Villa have a FFP problem or not ? They have acted so it seems as if they don’t or perhaps they don’t care about it and are willing, happy even, to face any problems it brings in the future ? Perhaps they haven’t heard how much it has cost QPR to stick two fingers up at the FA ?

I think they are takin the chance it'll just be a fine but with them having such a disregard for it that they go and splash out and refuse to even their bill with an asset sale that is highlighted in the rules stated, the powers that he should throw the biggest punishment at them in a points deduction or whatever it may be as they had the chance to adhere to the rules and simply seem to have stuck their fingers up at it. It'll be interesting to see what happens over the next few months

You need to have a certain mentality. Playing for your childhood club is one thing. Ask 16 year old Wayne Rooney.
That's not what I'm saying though. It seems that he would have been more than happy to join us, but getting to stay and play for your childhood club isn't a bad 2nd prize for him.
I appreciate we're all a tad disappointed at our lack of activity, but I find it a bit distasteful to question his mentality when he obviously had an interest in joining us.

Yeah before the new owners came in we were given permission to speak to him and discuss personal terms etc. We were told the fee would be £25mil. Obviously we haggled a bit as we do to tie that in with money up front and add ons to total that 25.

My opinion is we didn't move because we were holding out hope of someone else knowing he wanted us and we could match the asking price at any time. When the other deal fell through we went back in for him but the new owners had decided he wasn't for sale at all.

The reason we were all so confident he was coming mid window was because we had agreed the fee, shown him round etc. Yesterday again we were all hearing it was a go because Levy was going to formally bid, which we did but it was too late.

This is just so indecisive..... Levy should not do any transfer anymore. No one wants to deal with him.

He's not perceived by most agents and chairmen like you think. He is actually respected by most of them as being one of the very best at what he does. There was a transfer deadline e day thing on sky the other day where Steve Parrish had nothing but praise for him. A chairman according to many on here refused to deal with him

When Herc said door closed for Grealish, presumed that means for good.

Take it we won't be going back in for him in January? He'll probably sign a new contract now...

Simon Jordan too, who absolutely hated Levy for how he pinched Bostock and Routledge before that, also often states how good a chairman Levy is.

I don't think he'll sign a new deal. He needs to get out of the Championship and he'll know he would have been pushing for an England place if he'd got his move. Villa screwed him over (or the new owners did), and although he loves the club I doubt if he'll want to hang around there. Wouldn't be surprised if we went back in Jan.

I dont see how you can look at the job Levy has done with the club since he took over and not admire him if you are in the same business. IMO he's the model for how you sustainably build a club over the long term if you dont have bags of extra cash.

Speaking for the first time since the window shut, Bruce said: “I think what’s important is that the owner has put out a statement of intent.

“There was no figure for Jack and he made that clear six days ago. Whatever Spurs offered he wasn’t going to listen to it. Not everybody believed it but I think they can start believing it now. He didn’t want to lose his star player. He wanted to build his team around him and we’ll have to respect that."

His new contract supposedly has a 30 buy out. If true then that will be the figure. Saying that, we never pay full sums up front so it will be irrelevant to us.

I read that but I'm not sure if it is true, if so it needs to be set in stone that if the buy out is met he must be alowed to leave to the club of his choice if they meet the price, personally if what Bruce says is true, I can't see him getting a contract with a buy out fee anything like what he and his agent would agree to, in which case in his situation I wouldn't sign a new contract then he's got two years to leave or get an even better contract.
Instinctively I'd avoid anything that binds me to, and hands the power to, people that I have to believe I can't trust but then I'm not a professional footballer with an agent.

That info from Bruce was revealing. It seems that all the 'noise' re Jack Grealish was really just that, they were simply not selling. Presumably, we didn't believe them but we( us) were led to believe there was some kind of negotiation going on ( £7 million apart etc), even a medical was supposedly happening on the Wednesday which seemed odd to me in vew of the statements being made by Villa.

If the boy signs a new contract without a buyout clause ensuring that he can leave even if they don't get promoted then his agent has done a shitty job.

Grealish clearly was prepared to leave his boyhood club for his own development and progression needs and if he signs a deal with no clause inserted he will never get to test himself on the European and potentiall International stage.

Villa have money and will probably go up, but if they think they can shoot up the league when there's so many teams ahead of them they'll be sorely mistaken. If Grealish stays at Villa he probably won't challenge to reach his ability levels until he's about 27 at the earliest. A big waste for a club that wouldn't give a shit about you if you weren't good enough to make it there initially.

Let's see how he does in the Championship this time around but a new deal with no clause would walk the tightrope of career suicide for such promise and potential. It's a far too risky thing to do when the new owners have already shown their hand by going back on what seems to have been said to him
