While I agree with this we are not going to be able to improve the first XI in every position. We are not going to be able to upgrade on Eriksen but we need someone else that can play that role if he's out. That I guess is what we would be looking at from Grealish.
Do we not have Lamela and Dele who can do some of those things? I think we have 3 players who can play that role currently, not to mention Winks might have the ability to play further up the field as well. Maybe you could throw Lucas in that role as well and be able to succeed. Granted it was against Rochdale gut we saw what a Son/Lamela/Lucas trio behind a forward can create. I think they could do similar against lower level premier league squads as well.

We've been linked to Grealish for I don't know how fudging long. He is competing with Damiaõ for the award of longest linked player. At the very least since summer of 2015 hands down. Personally, I do not care about this link at all. I think we should for one summer just not spend time and energy on signing back-ups to the back-ups, and rather sign fewer, really great players. Whatever holes we are left with, we can fill from the academy.

Jesus so we are really in for him must say I’m pretty surprised not like he has burst onto the scene, he has been around for a while and only come to light over the last few months .

I worry also he might not have the work ethic or personality to be a poch player.

I couldn't agree with a post more. To me, all we need are three players. A top level CM who is a pass first player, a young stud Toby replacement, and a Kane backup. Now of course that would be assuming we expect Aurier to be better in his second year and KWP to make a step up along with Rose coming back healthy at fullback. Those three spots are all this team needs. If we get those right we can compete on all fronts.

My thinking exactly. Plus I would hope there are times when we could do with several creative players on the pitch, not just one.

As far as I can tell from you tube. He's very much an AM not a cm.

He is flipping good though but on that evidence, not what we actually need.

Rather than picking up the quality backups I would prefer us to go after the gaps in starting xi players.
£40m for Grealish or double up to get that star player and spend £80m on a Savic type CM.
Maybe he’s out of our league but £80m on someone like him would give way more than x2 the value of a £40m Grealish who could come good but is a sub realistically starting next season.

I agree on the first part. Would rather spend extra on a first team player.

But don't be fooled on this 40m bollocks.
20m at best for him and some of that is add ons.

If Wolves are bidding €40m on a right back & Fulham wanted £50m on Sess when they were in the Championship, then Villa are very likely to ask for £40m for one of their best players

THEY can ask away, they won't get it.

Too much history with this boy, no one will take a 40m chance on him. Villa are pissing in the wind.

Never mind the quality of the kid... I just can't get past his coifed hair! Makes my sphincter clench in anger every time I see his barnet!

He does not come across as a Pochettino type player; the type who knuckles down and works hard.
Friend at work is a massive Villa fan and goes to all the home games. He thinks Grealish, like many players before him have the talent to make it at the very top - but lacks the focus, maturity and temperament.

But MP is a coach and can turn lumps of coal into jems.

When he first came on the scene I thought he was a talent but I think he's fallen short of what we need. I just don't think he is exceptional in any area. A decent player who has had a good season in the Championship but not one to get excited about and £40m is about double what he's worth.

No thanks (n).

Villa are fucked financially and have big gaps to fill in their squad. I'd imagine a decent offer of cash (20m say) and some loans, I think they'd bite our hand off
