Used to love kombu (kelp) when I lived in Japan. Kelp (wet seaweed) always gave me a boost after a few hours. I remember being told about thyroid/ metabolism relation and infection-fighting qualities of kombu.
It's got masses of good elements (coupled with molasses, they have virtually everything the soil is lacking = hence our foods are lacking).
British it somewhat polluted (as sadly Japanese is likely after the meltdown), depending on situation it is best (to my mind) to go for Ascophyllum Nodosum (Norwegian) Kelp during colder months, due to the colder climate it has higher sodium relative to potassium, so bringing osmotic outwards, warming, whilst outside training. Algazim is a Norwegian government controlled fjord Kelp which is expensive (I tend to get 1lb bags from a cheaper source, but quality is everything).
Laminaria Digitata (Atlantic) may be better in warmer climates, or summer months for athletes, or those who want something with higher potassium relative to sodium, for whatever reason.
Kelp is awesome, shame they are toxifying the sea, eventually it will become useless if things continue as they are.
