We can confirm that Oliver Skipp has undergone surgery in America this morning (Tuesday 26 April) to repair a pubis injury and will be out for the remainder of the season.

The Academy graduate, 21, will now undergo a period of recovery and is expected to return to training for the pre-season period.

This seems bit extreme for a condition he's only had for 6 months.
Can he not be injected with hydrocortisone/steroids to keep the inflammation under control?

Not following your logic here bud.

Long term, surely curative is better than preventative?

For his long term health, he'd possibly be better off resting for a year or 2. That seems to be what Dr google says. Surgery should be a last resort. Personally, I think that's a good rule of thumb.
And there's no guarantee it will fix the problem. Infection and scaring are always a risk with surgery.

I wonder if Skipp had the same thoughts, and calculated the risks were too high...until he got the 5 year contract?

Yeah. I think I'm kind of aware of that one bud ?.

And I think you're being a little too cynical by suggesting Skipp may have some sort of ulterior motive here.

It's not like these guys are nipping into the local A&E to be diagnosed & treated. He's been out for over 2 months. In which times I'm sure he's been assessed by some of the best health professionals available to anyone.

And you can almost certainly guarantee that it would be an elite surgeon who has decided this is going to be the best thing to do moving forward.
