Let’s Discuss Our Goalkeepers for a bit.

Post your choice along with reasoning and let’s see which side the coin lands on.

Personally I feel as though the time has come for Gazzaniga to get more first team minutes in the PL. His distribution from the back makes me think he’s a playmaker more than a goal keeper. Due to his age, his reflexes and reactions are quicker than Lloris and he is quicker off the line. Lloris nudges him in the confidence category, but with more minutes I’m sure Gazza would gain that level of confidence and climb beyond it.

Let’s here some more thoughts

Big no.

I posted an article in the Hugo thread a few weeks ago that categorically demonstrates that Hugo is having a very good season. I like Gazza as a 2, but if there comes a time when he's a clear number one option then it's time to get a new keeper.

Hugo every day, nothing against Gazza who’s shaping up as a fine #2 and far steadier than Vorm used to be but the last thing you want to be doing is inserting confusion and uncertainty in the back line.

The guy’s our captain so obviously has great respect in the dressing room and would do more harm than good disrupting the tight squad we have

Still Hugo for me, but I like the way Gazzaniga is developing. Good confidence, great distribution and a real presence with his size and agility. Saw a couple of journalists say he made mistake for Kante’s goal the other night - thought that was very harsh after taking 2 deflections

Hugo still but his performances over past 18 months or so have been a concern. With Gazzinga he has performed really well when called upon and certainly proved me wrong about him from when we brought him.. but there is a big difference from being a good number two and playing the odd game here or there and performing well and a number one who has to play week in week out and having to perform consistently.

Gazza looks like he has the makings of a good keeper, maybe even a truly great one.

But what irks me is how many seem to forget or ignore the fantastic saves Lloris has pulled off this season. Instead focusing on a few errors he's maybe guilty of.

For sure his distribution could be better, and maybe it appears he might have saved a few that have actually passed him, but I'm pretty sure I'm safe in the thinking that the positives far outweigh the negatives.

In fact...check out who was #1 just 2 months ago regarding save percentage.

I'll concede his kicking is often shite, but he's still first choice IMO.

Well Hugo’s captain. & a WC winning captain too

It’ll have to be based on more than form or skill only

Keep Hugo but slowly start to intorduce Gazza for more Prem games over the next two seasons. Great to have a world cup winner in our squad, he can be a great influenece on Gazza and other young keepers. Sorry Vorm I think its time to say goodbye.

Both have pluses and negatives. Gazza has by far better distribution and is better with the ball at his feet. Hugo is very panicky and often loses possession easily by kicking out of play. Hugo has a better command of the area but can be a bit impetuous. He's cost us points this season. Unfortunately both have a rickett in them but I think Hugo shades.

At some point I think that we could do with an upgrade in this department. Someone like De Gea or even Allison don't concede the Rashford goal the other week.

Doesnt matter to me. We can get a decent size fee for lloris if we decide gazza was going to be number one.

I think Hugo should continue until the end of the season but Gazza has impressed me and I think should be challenging for the number one shirt next season. He needs more games to improve but his kicking is very very good and could give us another dimension. His size makes him more imposing and he has great reactions. Hugo is a very good keeper also but does have weaknesses that are not acceptable and that have cost us this season.

Hugo reaches the peak of his career with the WC medal and now he’s surplus to requirements. Meanwhile the top6 clubs sign WC winners and we whine about signing nobodys.

It’s like a Brexit discussion with my wife sometimes in here.

It’s surely not even a debate. Gazza has done well in the cups this season but Lloris is our captain and World Cup winner. Seems to have really ironed out his early season issues and has been playing well. Certainly more competition than when Vorm was the no2.

In time he will be the first choice. Loris is having a really good season so Gazzaniga just have to wait

Still, Hugo is the best but Paolo is much superior with his feet and distribution.

Agree with the overwhelming sentiment – I stand massively corrected on Gazzaniga; I couldn't believe we'd signed him based on what little I'd seen of him at Southampton, but he's done a cracking job and looks a real good keeper. A far superior option than Vorm, who's sadly surplus to requirements.

But he is no. 2 – these calls for Lloris to be replaced are ridiculous. The guy's one of the best shot-stoppers in the world. He's a World Cup-winning captain and one of our best players.

He's always been prone to mistakes, and we know his handling and kicking has always been susceptible (it's also why we've never lost him to a 'bigger' team). But he's a top goalkeeper, and I still think we're lucky to have him.

Next few seasons, who knows. But for now, he's undisputed numero uno.

I agree. Neither can be compared to the very best goalies we have seen over the years but Hugo is very close to them and Gazza has already shown signs he can be very good. For me I go along with you. There are many examples of top goalies playing up to 40 so, theoretically, why not Hugo if he maintains his form. Also, his experience playing internationally, in Europe and the EPL is a big plus for me. Gazza appears to ooze potential and, for me, for that needs to be brought out by playing in matches against tougher opposition.

So I would continue with Hugo but on the understanding he knows Gazza will be given some games to gain experience and not simply be used in the League Cup as they did Vorm.

To be honest, I feel more confident in Gazzaniga. I think keep him for the cups and lloris for the league. Lloris hasn't "lost it" yet but Gazzaniga is certainly looking to be an adequate replacement.

I couldn't argue though, If Gazzinga took his place.
