Mmm I'm surprised the club doesn't make sure players (who already have a yellow) are aware they can't afford a yellow card. You would expect the match preparation to consider who is on a card, and a comment to the effect of 'be careful'. Son was obviously not completely prepared when he went into the match.

However, it's a bit churlish to criticise any one, or thing, about Spurs when they have knocked out Man City. This is the stuff of dreams for us supporters.

I would never tell a player if I knew and they didn't if they pick up a yellow they miss the next game. That would be insane.

You will not get the same player or performance from them if you do.

Nah I disagree & I think managers inform their players of such things almost all the time. It's not about asking the player to play any different to how they normally would. It's just about informing them that they're a booking away from suspension, so don't do anything stupid (ie 2 footed lunge or dissent to the ref).

What Son did on Wednesday night was what probably 99% of players would've done, regardless of being a card away from suspension. DeBruyne would've been through if Son didn't hold his arm. Took one for the team rather than likely concede a goal.

If would be more insane not to tell them though  In this case, if Son had known "better" he would have restrained himself and not been so rash and thus not missed the 1st leg of the semi-finals. Makes sense or not?
Some time players pick up cheap cards they normally wouldn't if they know they'll be suspended if they've run up their card numbers or suspension. Just like a player who's on a yellow in a game will play more cautiously yet be effective.
