Ok it's early season and we have played inferior teams. But I like the style and hard work of the current squad. Liverpool will be the big test but I have to say the quality of the what we see as the second X1 last night says it all about the current squad Poch seems to have them playing for their positions. Not sure I would want to be the Spurs Manager choosing a team from this squad......it must be difficult.
Holtby needs to decide if he wants to fight for his place or take the option to leave. Is he good enough to eventually nail a permanent role in the side maybe.
I am very optimistic with this squad and hope this season is not another false dawn. Love it if we got Welbeck as I just feel he maybe the final piece of this Spurs jigsaw. COYS

Holtby is right; he does need regular 1st team football. Unfortunately he's not quite good enough to get it at Spurs. Best for all concerned if he moves on. No hard feelings, he always tried hard and was a good team man off the pitch but sometimes things just don't work out and he needs to think about his career now.

I think he could have started ahead of Bentaleb against QPR, he was stellar during preseason. I hope we hang onto him. I'd be sad to see him go, but with that said I'd hate to see him waste away on our bench.

Was only a matter of time and these type of stories will become the norm, I was trying to make this point in the match thread yesterday but people didn't seem to get it. With the amount of first team players we have at least 4 or 5 won't even make it on the bench. So I expect Poch will have to deal with a lot of disgruntled players if none leave by the end of the tw.

agree with you, is some positions we have 3 players flighting for the same spot,
like Holtby with Paulinho and Eriksen for the No10 spot, i think we have a very strong midfield and we need to let one or two go, and we are still talking of Schneiderlin coming

Yes, exactly. When we have too many players for them all to get a game even with 2 games a week, there's a problem.

Injuries will come and he will get his chance. If he wants to wait for that is another story.

Tuff one too call ....I like the lad and he tries hard and as a good engine....but I do think there is better in his position, sadly.
But if we stay in all the cups and Europe then that's a lot more games added to our fixtures and he will get games.

Watching last night .....and having giving sandro a few bad ( ish ) comments I was really impressed with him and also think dembele was great aswell .......so its hard to see who's going to go,because we do need to move one on or two if we sign MS.
I know Holtby can play further up aswell but like someone above stated there is a lot up there aswell.
We have decent cover in most postitions now and so far everyone is playing well and more important ...following Pochs orders,we now seem to be a TEAM again and understand whats needed of them.

If hes to stay then I could see Paulinho going,IF we got a decent offer for him......I know he scored and done well in parts but,i don't think we'd miss him if he went :(

Going to be interesting these last few days before that windows shut that's for sure :)

I think we need to be cautious unless replacements are lined up. If lamella and Erikson are injured at the same time, a lot of the fluency and creativity we have seen will be absent. Holtby could do a job in those circumstances.

decent squad player, but not good enough to be part of out strongest XI if everyone is fit. if he wants to be part of a great squad, great, but if he needs first team football every week he will have to move on.

ultimately , we only want players who want to be here.

We have about 60 games in England. In Germany he would have about 35 with Hamburg.

I guess he would still play more with us.

If he doesnt want to fight for a first XI spot then so it should be. He cant expect to walk straight into our team week for week now.

Its not just about number of games though is it, its about your status within the squad.

At Hamburg he could become one of the first names down on the team sheet if he applies himself, whereas at Spurs he is likely only going to be part of a squad rotation.

Also does he want to play 20 games against L1, 2 or far flung Europa league teams, or Bundesliga games week in and week out incl. Dortmund and Bayern?!

I think he can be an integral part of the Spurs squad, but I would hardly blame him if he felt he needed to move to further his career.

Two ways to look at this...

1. He wants to be here and wants more game time. Being a sub yesterday and getting 15 minutes when Lennon and Townsend weren't doing alot must be tough to take.

2. He's not happy and wants to move.

Not everyone saying they want to play more and need more games want to leave. Sometimes they just don't want to be forgotten. I hoped he would make it with us because he is a really likeable guy who brings a lot of energy to both the club and the pitch. He clearly has a talent in there and could be utilised in either the cm or am slots. Hopefully he will bed down and fight for the place the in the team.

Even if we sign no new players, we are still 1-2 midfielders too heavy and so whoever an acceptable bid comes in for (apart from a few players who aren't available, such as Lamela and Erikssen) will be allowed to leave, be that Holtby, Sandro or anyone else.

Replacements? We have Paulinho, Dembele, Sandro, Townsend and Lennon sitting on the sideline at the moment. We need to trim. If not Holtby, it'd have to be one or two of the above.
