Meanwhile the Guardian uses the same quotes to spin an opposite headline - "Roy Hodgson says he will not jettison Wayne Rooney for Euro 2016" - demonstrating once again that anything goes in sports journalism. Just as well they're not writing about anything important.

Frankly Rooney would rank behind Kane, Vardy, and maybe even Sturridge on FORM. He is the captain and clearly should make the squad, but unless his form is good enough maybe he should be an impact sub? Rooney hasn't had the greatest of seasons, and is not always played as an out and out no 9 these days.
Think how "brave" Ramsey must have been to leave out the great Jimmy Greaves, but a hat-trick quashed any criticism!
We need Hodgson to be as bold as his players!
