Okay, that hurt.
But lets look at it this way:
We lost Modric, VDV and King Ledley in the Summer.
Kaboul, BAE and Scotty Parker have all been out injured for a while.
Dembélé and Bale were absent for today's game, for one reason and another.
Aside form Dembélé, who is already so important to us, that is seven of last season's 1st choice team (when Ledley was available, of course). And Adebayor, started on the bench and is clearly still very rusty.

And we really pushed a very good, almost full-strength, top-of-the-table and unbeaten Chelsea team, to the limit. We deserved something from that game, and but for a horrible error by Walker may just have got an equaliser, given the amount of chances we were creating and the momentum we had.

I am not quite sure that I was happy with AVBs selections today, surely Lloris should have started after his performance against Spain, and Ivanovic was crying out to be really pressurised down our left <TRIES VERY HARD NOT TO CASTIGATE BALE>, but he never even put Townsend on for the last 15. But even so, that was a fair effort.

So chins up Yids and Yidettes (y)

I felt we done ok in stages.

Not convinced by Sig and as you say, Bale and Dembele are probably two of our best players.

Could have been worse, we played really well in the second half.

Not happy with Lloris being dropped though, I'd imagine Hugo's not too impressed with it either. AVB's first genuine man-management clanger imho.

Dempsey and Sigardsson are pointless signings. Both are the epitomy of average and aren't good enough for a club who supposedly want to challenge for the champions league.

Both can fuck off quite frankly.

More convinced by Sig whenever Adebayor is on the pitch. Think he just needs a bit of confidence (y)
Sadly, however, he is equipped neither to play behind Defoe as the lone front-man, nor to play our wide...and neither is going to give him confidence. The bit of ball juggling from the Ade flick, followed by a volley would have, but, alas...:inpain:

Get your point, would rather one decent player. Spend Dempsey money on closing Mouts - when is Levy gonna get this.

Then again, having cover for the wings is necessary as well. Look at today. No Bale, so who do you play? Dempsey. Had Moutinho come in, we would have had a wealth of midfield options but be very light on the wings.

Or maybe Levy should just start to spend more money.

I think you user name explains you incredibly harsh and damning assessment (y)

Maybe so.
Like I said, Lloris was exceptional against Spain and did keep our only clean sheet against Villa (albeit a tad fortuitously). I'm sure there was some method in his madness, but not the right move IMVHO.

Bit harsh but playing Chelsea today was a wake up call. Dempsey & Sig vs Mata & Hazard?

It's fucking embarrassing.

Lapses of concentration at vital times but I'm glad they were applauded at the end. Bigger picture, there's good times ahead.

I thought Siggy looked very useful today, I'm not 100% sure what Dempsey gives us though, he's clearly a decent player, i just don't know what he's for. Hopefully AVB will help him find his place, he looks a bit lost atm.

Personally i thought we played quite well, up until the 4th went in, i still thought we would nick an equaliser.

All of that is true and I agree with it but it doesn't excuse the schoolboy level of defending from Gallas and Walker today though.

Exactly.
I'm not for writing players off so soon, especially not Sigs who hasn't been been played with a lone striker like Adebayor who suits his game (and in the brief glimpses of the two it has looked promising). Especially given his relatively young age - I still remember when I was virtually a lone voice saying Kaboul would show himself to be an excellent acquisition, when so many were so desperate to get shot of him and were virtually celebrating when he was shipped out to Pompey.
And, as in my OP, that team was nothing like our team of last season, and not much like how I imagine our first team will look by the end of the season, and yet we still really pushed the undefeated league leaders who were virtually at full-strength, would have deserved something out of the game, and may well have done so, heaping the pressure on and going close a few times, but for one horrible error that killed the game off and make the scoreline look far worse. Chins up Yids and Yidettes (y)

Bigger picture indeed, thought we played with some good spirit, did people honestly think we would just calmly brush the Chavs aside. No? me neither, thought i would feel pretty shit but i saw enough today to confirm we are going forwards, we were more fluid, and they did press us quickly..
Lennon looks like he is getting some good form back, Sigs stepped up second half, not getting the sig hatred at all after today.

As SP said some first team still out, could we start peaking in Jan this year instead of collapsing? Quite frankly annoyed with Ade's moody attitude, 100k a week, poor lamb, grow the fuck up already.
Lloris needs to start, Walker would benefit being locked in the video room with the King and going over every game so far.
Defoe looks like a different player when he actually passes the ball..
Overall feels the same as after Newcastle, plenty of positives, chin up, we don't have £140 mil to spend on 4 front players..

Yeah that's more to do with the fact that they spent over £40m on the pair of them and are paying wages we don't get anywhere near to. Chelsea and City are playing in a completely different ball park to the rest of the league hence the massive difference in quality.

Not sure what you're expecting.

Has this been confirmed? Or is it just a bit of the old twisting of AVBs open door policy being twisted to suit a meeja agenda?

It's just rumour. I mean, we all know that Ade can be a sulky bugger but I can't see him kicking up a fuss when he's not been fit and has been injured.

You're quite right but I still think we can do considerably better than Dempsey & Siggy.

more personal opinion, I thought he looked uninterested when he first came on, not the same as his Villa cameo, i got the feeling from his body language he deserved a start, i hope his attitude at previous clubs doesn't pop up again at ours..
