I really hope Carroll has a massive tournament and is one of the stars of the show, if he does he should be able to cement his position in the Tottenham squad for the following season.

We're crying out for a player like him and I hope he's given a chance.

Saying that, if Alli shows he's got potential of doing that and offers a greater goal threat, I would rout for him to play in the midfield two.

Poch seems to be spoilt for choice in the midfield area.

In BT Sports' weekly 'what's on BT Sport' email they're previewing the England v Portugal game on Thursday and their highlighted player is Ings. You can bet your life if he was still at Burnley it would be someone else.

What you have IS a liverpool phobia, I have suffered all my life. But on positive side, it all keep the heat off Harry(y)

Sorry I haven't had a chance to read all the previous posts in this thread, but I'm glad yesterday's game was just a friendly because I thought England were extremely poor and (I hate to say it, but) Carroll and Pritchard were particularly wretched.

Hats off to the Belorussians. They chased the ball down and harried and hustled the English boys off the ball at every opportunity, making it virtually impossible for us to keep the ball. That's exactly what we should be doing to our opposition, not letting them do it to us. Same applies to us at club level too. For me. it's all part of the high pressure concept, which we seem to have forgotten of late.

I don't think Alli should to be there I was just saying if RLC gets a place then Alli is more deserving through his experience. Dier is a terrible decision.

Your last paragraph is plausible we all know politics plays a part in all walks of life and football is not above it as we know. Southgate whether he makes decision or not is the mouth piece for it, and his justification for some of his decisions is just strange

@TonyNZ You think RLC deserves to go?

Or that Southgate's decisions are justified?

Pritchard arguably so but not Carroll. Pritchard could have got an assist in the first 15mins. Carroll played 4 class balls.

1)Early on when the edge of the box was congested he scooped a ball over the top which Berahino should have hit first time but he took a touch and lost the opportunity.
2)He played a flat raking long ball picking out Berahinos run behind the defence. Berahina took it round the keeper on his chest and should have finished but dallied and their players got back
3)He played a reverse through ball that noone saw to Berahino who got to the byline in the penalty box. Berhino tried to cross it nothing came of it
4) He played a through ball along the ground from the halfway line beating two of their players one who tried to slide and intercept it, down the left of the area, I think that was to Ings.

He misplaced a couple of passes and I think lost the ball in possession but he was easily the most creative player on the pitch for me, and all 4 of those passes that opened the opposition up were different types of passes showing what he has in his locker. Each one removed the defence and at least 2 should have ended up as assists with the others helping to create goal scoring opportunities. Thing is if he just plondered around passing sideways and backwards retaining possession people would have criticised anyway.

It appears I was a little harsh on Tom, so OK, I take it much of it back, but I'm not a fan of the five yard or even ten yard sideways pass and I never will be. I always want the ball to get forward. I don't see any point in giving someone a ten yard sideways pass and then yelling at them them to get the ball forward, when you should be doing that yourself. That's what I believe is meant by pressurising the opposition, chasing them down, catching them in possession all over the pitch and not letting them re-group their defence and get comfortable as you piss about with the ball sideways and backwards. Get forward, not sideways! All the best sides do it and so should we.

OK, Tom wasn't that bad, and I'm happy to accept that my original assessment was harsh on him.

i cant imagine us crying out for another ball moving left footer with limited defensive capability. we are crying out for a partner to complement such a player. right sided, combative, quick, positionally aware, ideally decent in the air too.

Thanks and I say 'Hi' right back. I must say that although Spain played a much more measured style of football for the most part, when they attacked, they attacked with great pace and menace, which was why they were the all conquering masters they were for some time, but even now, they've been rumbled somewhat. Teams are learning not to be afraid of them and are attacking far more and with greater confidence.

The worm is turning.

I always feel there's much more to football than just winning. What was that our own Danny Blanchflower said about playing with a certain style and not winning by boring the other lot to death?

I was merely expressing a personal view, I like to see a more aggressive, pacey type of football but of course, you may not agree, that's your prerogative.

Spain vs Belgium was dreadful.
Two very average teams.
