Got my first season ticket in 87, so only caught the last season of him. Still THE GREATEST I've ever seen by an absolute distance. For the uninitiated, watch this video. You've probably seen the spectacular goals before, but look at the passing. The back spin he puts on the passes over the top so the ball dies perfectly for the striker to run on to. The way he sees everything a couple of months before everyone else. The preposterous 2-footedness. And just being the human embodiment of everything that's great about Tottenham Hotspur.

This will be the best 16 minutes you've spent in a while:

My hero growing up and I had the privilege of watching him from 1978 to 1987 along with Ardiles and Waddle who were also were game changers in this great period..
I used to frequently walk past his house in Harlow as a young boy with the hope of seeing him and getting autograph.

If he'd been French, Dutch, Spanish or Brazilian, the national coach would have built the team around him, and he'd have won 100+ caps. Here, he was picked by England almost as an afterthought (if he was picked at all), and was seen as a luxury. As Danny (or was it Bill Nick?) once said, it isn't players like Hoddle who are a luxury, but the bad ones.

Happy birthday to the best Spurs player I've seen.

Happy birthday to the best spurs player i ever saw personally a special talent, one of our own a football genius.
Not appreciated enough by his country as a player and even less as manager, thanks for the magic Glenn.

Happy Birthday to a player who was just poetry in motion on the pitch. Luckily I was around during his whole playing career but best remember the night he destroyed Feyenoord in the first half in 1983. Do yourself a favour and Google it! Can't get tired of watching his videos. There's no one around to touch him today - he'd be worth €500m!

I'm old.

I remember reading a small piece in the Evening Standard in which Cyril Knowles said he'd seen a young kid in the junior side who was the best prospect he'd ever seen, who could do things with the ball that no one he'd played with at top level could do. He said "remember the name Glenn Hoddle".

I think most of us thought "what a funny name".

Cyril Knowles and Glenn Hoddle.

How can anyone support any other club?
