Once it gets to this stage I think the player becomes so set on signing for one club that other competitor's for his signature are likely not to even bother trying, which in turn doesn't help Betis get the price they desire

I guarantee you we are not buying Lo Celso for 70 mil without getting something for Eriksen
Maybe we will go for a 40-45mil option
Well we're not spending 70m on Lo Celso regardless, he'll be closer to 50m. It's still massive money for Betis. They just want to get as much as possible and who can blame them?

just a suggestion don't believe the old oily rags. all the papers believe we don't have money because of the stadium
Literally three or four weeks ago some twat on Sky was adamant we’d only be buying 15-20 million pound players because we couldn’t afford anything else and even then we’d have to sell before buying. This message permeates multiple media sources and yet it’s mostly bollocks. It’s obvious we have money to spend, but that doesn’t fit into the notion being peddled right now

Good. I’d rather be in the shadows getting written off than with all eyes on us.

I certainly believe this more than I believe the pie-eyed fools on here who think Levy will spend on Tanguay and Isco/GLC without seliing Eriksen. Call me crazy.
Given Levy's track record you're probably right, but I enjoy lying to myself like a mistreated wife returning to her abusive hubby for the eighteenth time.

"I just know the bald man will spend this time...he has to...he promised. I mean...there's never been a better time than now...and after 18 months without spending a penny. He's changed...I just know it".

I think they earmarked money for GLC but Betis is asking for far more (20-30M) and that has in turn made the purchase reliant on the Eriksen sale.

I can see us saying "we will pay 40M for him regardless of Eriksen", hearing that's what Betis were likely to want, but then Betis says "we want 60M" which puts him 20M+ out of our budget, meaning we can't get him now unless we move Eriksen. It can all be true: his purchase is not reliant on Eriksen sale (at the value we believe Betis would bite), then Betis asks for something way out of line with what we were told they'd want, thus making the purchase reliant on Eriksen.

No way to know for sure, but I personally believe Levy is currently very annoyed with Eriksen, as the timing could not have been worse for him to announce he'd grown bored at Spurs after the lackluster year he had. Now, instead of selling him for 120mil and funding two premium young players, we'll be lucky to sell him at all, and even then we'll only just break even with someone like GLC.

I just really really hope we sign at least one other creative, technical midfielder (i.e. Ceballos) regardless of what happens with Lo Celso and Eriksen. We need another option who can play a bit deeper and provide a bit of creativity and variety to our play. We relied far too much on Eriksen for that last year.

You pay for future performance not past performance. As great as Isco has been I’d rather have Lo Celso developing under Pochettino’s tutelage into his peak years.
This is nonsense. If you don't let past performance become part of any consideration to buy a player then you are in trouble

see the problem you have is because Levy has never spent a fortune unless we have sold players (with exception of 2008), yet your forgetting we never bought anyone in the previous 2 windows, because you refuse to believe Poch was part of the reason we never signed anyone and would prefer to blame the owners. you refuse to believe we made massive profits, we also have the CL money after bonuses, and we also have the rest of the money we earnt last season.

why supporters that refuse to believe ITK (salt required), but prefer to listen to the media or journalist because they might get something right once in a 100 efforts I don't know. Don't get me wrong but we as a club are most probably expecting to get an Eriksen sale, but why would we bid on 2 players one we have got through the door, without a guaranteed sale of Eriksen. Rumours are he wants RM or Barca (never know which 1 for definite). We can't force him to sign for anybody else so why try and buy his replacement before he is definitely sold.

the stadium doesn't have to be paid for overnight, we have spent the last 8years pilling the little money compared to todays into the team and stadium, so now the stadium is finished, and we know we are getting 26k more fans through the doors and the profits for drink and food have gone through the roof compared to Wembley and the old WHL. ST and membership tickets are more expensive, plus we will eventually get a namings rights fee, on top of the extra Nike shirt deal and other sponsors that have joined, we might actually have the money to get these big players now without the need to sell a star man. I bet the paper forgot to look at all that info before having their report printed

8 sentences in all that. :hungover: Almost ruined it by having 4 in the 2nd, but redeemed yourself with the last paragraph!

Just a bit of lighthearted banter, no offense intended.

We’re basically mirroring what Real are doing to us with Eriksen to Betis. Makes sense these are linked.

I thought the exact same thing. Only difference is Lo Celso has only been with Betis for a year, whereas Eriksen is one of our longest-serving players.

But yeah- I suppose turnabout is indeed fair play.
