Looks like a pretty balanced and reasonable report. Doesn't sound close to resolution but hopefully they are a bit behind. Would make sense for us to push hard this week, as long as the funds are available (and not subject to Eriksen's move to RM).

Certainly has the feel of the NDombele transfer, in that the player wants us, we want the player, but the selling club are holding out for a high price despite any potential bidding war failing to materialise. Can only assume we will get it done, but at a price closer to what we want. That might take a bit longer than ideal for pre season purposes, but given his international commitments and subsequent rest period, i think we would be reasonably happy to string this one out to the end of our window before buying, whereas we needed Tanguy done asap so that he could start pre season with the rest of the squad.

If ,as seems likely, we get Ceballos in, then any hugely urgent need for Lo Celso is somewhat diminished (presuming everyone else is also fit). I also think the fact he's Argentinian might make his settling in period and adapting to Pochs' methods slightly easier/quicker than another player, and he also seems a high intensity player anyway, so hard to think he wouldn't 'get' Pochs' work rate and pressing.

Moneywise, there did appear to be a large amount of credit left over from our stadium loans, so perhaps we are using some of that to finance the moves now, then will replenish it with transfer money received from outgoings (rather than us being hampered by waiting to receive money before we can buy) ??

difficult to judge anyone from a tournament, especially the copa where most of the play is done on the floor rolling around anyway. the fact he dominated madrid at the bernabeu in their 2-0 win last season is enough for me.

Real made a lot of players and teams look like world beaters last season though...

I don't know why but I'm unusually calm about this.
I'm pretty sure, for some reason, that the player has decided that he wants to come to us, it's just now a case of wearing Betis down.
Maybe it's due to us getting Ndombele, that I just think we are now a very attractive proposition.

Very little in the way of reports elsewhere also

Agreed

If we can do that deal, we should be able to do this one

I am calm also coz we had broken our transfer record to sign NDombele. If we hadnt, it would squeaky bum time inching towards 9 Aug. Would be deja vu feeling like last summer as if Levy aint backing Pochy.

Personally, I'd love to see this midfield/attack next season:

--------------Kane---------------
Alli----------------------------Son
---Lo Celso---NDombele---
------------Winks--------------

That looks nice and is surely creative and skillful enough. But Alli needs to get back to his best, we need more goals from him. Liverpool have Salah Mane and Firmino and we need to match that if we really want to be in the title race. Not sure though do we need Winks, Lo Celso and Ndombele at the same time. Maybe stick Sissoko for Winks?

I would feel much more safe with Sissoko as DM. IMHO Winks will be fighting with Ndombele for spot.

Agree, Alli sticks out like a sore thumb in that line up. Alli certainly has the goal soring ability and creativity to justify his selection when on form, but he needs to get back into top form. If he's not scoring or creating, he offers next to nothing, has little pace etc

Big season for Alli. If he has another poor season his place will be under huge threat.

(I really don' think we can rely on Moussa to be our DM in my opinion) but with us signing TN and having Winks, Dier, Sissoko, and possibly adding GLC and Ceballos it surely indicates a move in system.

It wasn’t
IMO this has been our one biggest weakness in the past few seasons. Since we lost our flying fullbacks, we've had to rely almost exclusively on Eriksen for creativity. Dembele gave us control and created space, which helped massively, but he was such a conservative passer of the ball, putting even more emphasis on Eriksen to provide.

With Ndombele we've already upgraded on Dembele in this regard - he can beat a man but is also comfortable passing forward quickly and taking risks. If we add Lo Celso and/or Ceballos into the equation we have a few players who can each fulfil some part of the 'Eriksen role' - with added tenacity, physicality and dribbling to boot.

We'll miss Eriksen's long range strikes, his vision and his composure, but at least we won't be relying on him game in, game out.
it wasn’t just Eriksen we relied upon Dele Alli Kane Son and later Moura when fit Lamela . Eriksen was is important but we are far from being a one man team... ps I know you’re not claiming that to be the case.

If he moves back further forward then I think he will. For my money he is the obvious one to take over the mantle of Eriksen should be leave. He was asked to play much deeper for longer this season and I think the criticism of him has been ludicrous during much of the season. If he does play behind Kane he will get loads of goals. The question for me is where Alli fits in a bona fida 4-3-3 ?

People forget Alli is still a development in progress you look at his stats they’re phenomenal. The 2018/19 season was definitely his most difficult in terms of the numbers he reached before however looking into that he played many games not fully fit Pochettino adjusted his starting positions frequently asked to play different roles due to other injuries of lack of quality depth also played a major tournament if you people remember not fully fit WC etc .

I hear some much murmurings about Alli and Kane too I wonder what people are expecting.

The change in formation will probably mean players like GLC and TN are providing a lot more creativity from deeper and carrying the ball on. I'd expect they will be looking to feed Alli and Kane further up the pitch. Most of Alli's good work was in a 2 up front with Kane when we played the 352.

I love the hate I'm getting because I questioned jj

Looks like you’ve not read the SC memo.

It’s the off season and You’ve been assigned as the stand in for Trippier (or whoever is next season’s scapegoat) until the season starts.

Wouldn't be at all surprised to see us go back to the double pivot midfield on some occasions with no dedicated DM at all.
Agree with this Winks can make a tackle and is very disciplined. If there was a 3 of GLC, TN and HW that would have enough bite and discipline. For the tougher games you could bring in a Dier or Wanyama to fully sit.

Yep, Winks is very flexible as a midfielder.

Some of his best displays were in champions league as a defensive midfield.

Don’t get me wrong Sissoko has been cracking this season and we’ll need to rotate, but peeps suggesting him over Winks to me seem kinda loco and not appreciating of the composure Winks brings.

And his sexy eye brows. ??

Will be interesting if we get Le Celso how they would fare in a three man midfield.
