City have De Bruyne, Jesus, Bernardo, Silva, Aguero, Foden, Sane and Sterling jostling for 5 slots. Yet they have no issues fitting them in.

You need healthy competition and rotation option nowadays to win.
Shit someone beat me to it. I'm not sorry tho.

If Eriksen stays there's no way we sign Lo Celso and Ndombele. I would love to be proven wrong but I just can't see it.
Out of the 2 I would prefer Lo Celso because we miss Eriksen too much when he's out so Lo Celso solves that.

Or if your David Pleat... La Selsiaar
I think we need to stop assuming as an example we need a proper defensive midfielder next to ndombele because he looks more like a box to box, I feel like we as fans tend to pigeon hole these players into set positions, he's 22 and maybe Poch has looked at him and said, I can get him in this part of my system and he has a whole load of extra qualities to boot. Lo Celso is the same he has great defensive stats, it's not out of this world to assume that between them they can cover the defensive responsibilities a midfield has.

Or maybe change our mind about a defensive midfielder. Have a keane/viera instead of a makelele?

Yeah I agree with this, I feel like there's a bit too much concern about having this out and out defensive midfielder but I don't necessarily think it's a requirement, United have rarely had one.

Winks has replaced Dier as the sitter this season. It seems to be a common theme now that the ballplayer play that position. De Jong was really deep for Holland against England for example, the first guy to pick the ball off the centre backs. Sissoko is now in the pivot as the box to box midfielder.
That's why it's important to get another playmaker a bit further forward. When Eriksen is out or not performing we really struggle to get things going further forward.
It would be an absolute dream to replace Dembele and Wanyama with Lo Celso and Ndombele. IF there's any chance getting those and keeping Eriksen I think we'd be in with a great shot at the title next season. I wont get my hopes up though.

-------------------- Lloris ---------------------
- Aurier -- Toby ---- Verts ---- Rose --
-------------- Ndombele -------------------
---- Lo Celso -------------- Eriksen ------
--- Son --------- Kane ------------- Alli ---

Realistically that front 5 would interchange so much a starting formation would be pretty trivial on paper.
With all due respect my pal...that midfield would get torn to absolute shreds. Ndombele is not a defensive midfielder.

Has anyone brought up that their Sporting Director has resigned? They wanted him to change roles. I don't know how or if this will effect any transfer.

A journalist's take on it:

De hecho, yo no he vivido ninguna época de estabilidad como seguidor del Betis. He vivido Chuli, Nono, Steinhofer, Perquis, Damiao... Crean un Betis que ha atraído a jugadores de la talla de Canales y Lo Celso y lo echan a perder por una guerra en la que el ego de Catalán ganó.

Pretty much says he helped bring Betis to a level of stability and heights not previously seen. He helped them attract talents such as Canales and Lo Celso and it's all been ruined by egos.

Without derailing this thread too much I actually happen to think Dier is 'fans favourite' that JJ alluded to being sold.

So that could potentially leave us with Winks, Sissoko, NDombele, Lo Celso and possibly Wanyama. I get the feeling Poch is heading to a 'Regista' (Winks) and box-to-box (NDombele/Sissoko) preferred midfield two rather than having an outright sitter like Dier/Wanyama. I could be wrong.

I would guess Victor as not many fans like Dier, which I think is weird

This is a great post. The days of the number 4 destroyer are dead or dying

JJ never said fan favourite as far as I can tell... don’t understand how that got twisted.

He did. I can't find the quote but it was definitely said either on here or Twitter. Although I think it was 'favourites' plural rather than one player.

Peak Wanyama > peak Dier, but I think Wanyama is far less likely to ever reach that level again. Plus Dier can play in multiple positions.

Both limited footballers imo, both have a wayward pass and a stupid freekick/yellow card in them too. Dier is a leader mentally, Wanyama less vocal but can lead by example, he can also go chasing the ball and be found out of position because of it. I'd be happier if Vic goes if I'm honest, although we would get more money for Dier

Highlights of Argentina vs Nicaragua with quite a few bits with Lo Celso...

Thank you for this :)

He really does look like the playmaker type - but also has an element of box-to-box about him too.
I was worried that he was maybe a little too one-dimensional, compared to Eriksen, but he has a touch of everything.......perhaps there's a right-footed shot in there too :)
