If I'm being honest, I think our game has stagnated this last season - injuries obviously a reason why, so had to have a standard game plan.

However, I believe people had sussed us out and the limitations of the squad (particularly at full back) often made us easy to play against

BUT part of this reason was Eriksen - he was not the player he was in previous years, he did not take any game by the scruff of the neck, and he made fewer killer passes. Might still be high in the assists numbers, but that's hiding the fgact that he played an awful lot of poor balls this season.

Though CE has been instrumental in everything we have done in previous seasons, we need to have a different 'modus operandi' and believe Lo Celso will offer us that something different. Now if that's in a partnership with CE then even better

Agree with most of this - when your main creator is out of form or having a poor game, you need options otherwise your goal tally is going to take a hit.

It's definitely been primarily injury related this season but it doesn't hide the lack of quality we have in a couple of areas, particularly the middle of the park. We have energy and physicality here but have lacked on a number of occasions this year, some real quality in terms of final ball, movement and sometimes a bit of quality on the ball in terms of first touch/beating a player.

Too often we've played a lot of football in front of the opposition and we need some options here to break through those lines again. As much as he was struggling towards the end of his time with us Dembele offered us something different and effective in his ability to remove players from the game with a dribble/shield and this created space and got the oppo scrabbling back to position. We don't need to replace him 100% (although that would be nice) but we do need to replace that impact in our team. Not just first 11 either but off the bench as well.

Absolutely. A long summer with the WC and then a tough season - many players will need a break and chance to refresh.

Hopefully, as disappointing as Saturday was, it's a positive step from us to make that final. Some strong signings in the summer and a whole season back at home next year, should revive some of our spark. Onwards and upwards.

Without derailing the thread too much - Lo Celso looks like the kind of player we need, good on the ball and quality in terms of attacking play. Not to mention busy enough for a bit of defensive work/pressing. This plus N'Dombele would be a dream signing combination in my view for midfield.

Guess I'm the only one who's a it meh about the guy. I'm just not seeing what's so special. He obviously has some ability but I don't see anything remotely special or particularly eye catching.

I agree to an extent - he looks like a 'very good' player.

But not the next level, exciting signing that most seem to see.

Maybe I haven't watched the right highlights video...

The 'every touch' highlights video from the recent game against Real Madrid stood out for me. Very bright and well rounded player.

I know that he is rated but two lads that are far more into watching La Liga than I reckon he is absolute mustard. Also nothing like any player we have at the moment.

That might be the idea. If he is being brought in as an addition to the current squad it makes sense to buy someone who has qualities that aren't necessarily duplicating what is already covered. If he's being signed in anticipation of particular players leaving then perhaps it's indicative of wishing to change the way the team plays moving forward.

it was disappointing but i think we all knew and accepted it, Liverpool are far ahead of us atm although they were shit on the night we need to spend to improve and we have fallen behind a number of clubs we are not many signing off of being one of the best teams in Europe. i think though if we just sign a few players we can close the gap.

Moving forward would be a great way to change how we play. The times we halt momentum and pass backwards kill me.

If anything I'd say injurys forced us to change our game plan too much.
