So, his mission to single handedly save this massive club from relegation wasn't exactly an unmitigated success, but he didn't have a bad time there, really... 'Boro next?
Paul Jewell has confirmed that Hossam Ghaly has played his last game for relegated Derby.
The Egypt midfielder joined the Rams on loan in January from Tottenham and played 16 games in the Rams' relegation season.
Pride Park manager Jewell has had to take stock since the club dropped out of the Premier League and has now confirmed Ghaly is not in his plans for next season.
Jewell told the official club website: "Hossam had a really good spell and when I spoke to him he said he would like to stay in the Premier League, but if he couldn't find anything he would come to Derby.
"He has played his last game for us now and we will be looking elsewhere."
