So, Chelsea and Man City have joined Liverpool in the race for Virgil van Dijk. £70m is the price that's being thrown around. Personally, I can't say that I've seen him play that much, but whenever we've played against him or in the little I have seen of him, he's never looked anything other than average. Is he currently one of the best CB's in the world, as the price would suggest?

At these prices I hope we get the deal through with Ajax for DS quickly before his price goes up even more

Everton look absolutely pedestrian. Sigurdsson, Klaassen and Rooney vying for the same position?
Rooney was fantastic against Stoke. Whether it was just the redebut at Goodison factor or if he's been genuinely reignited, it was almost like seeing him from two-three years ago. I also think they might go all three behind Sandro which, while you can easily argue that they're not quick enough, is full of guile and know-how.

They'll easily be top 7. Whether they can get higher than 7th depends more on whether one or more of the top 6 crash and burn.

Europe League will be a hindrance I reckon.

Still nowehre near enough pace in that side, especially with Rooney slowing down play in the middle, as he did with England. I think they'll struggle to break defensive teams down.

Agreed. FIFA really need to start preventing these things from happening.

Last summer City signed Marlos Moreno, Zinchenko and a couple of other players only to immediately loan them out with the intention of them to never step foot inside the Etihad. I now see that they are selling some of these players and, as you've pointed out, bought other clubs so that they can loan these players out. It's ruining the game in my eyes.

City is taking it a step further compared to Chelsea. Not do they only buy young prospects and loan them out immediatly, they also buy clubs so they have somewhere to send them.

Stoke announcing Jese. Funny. Nice sly dig at West Ham too....

Edit - it's a video though looks like a pic!

I know he's 30 - but how have Juventus signed Matuidi for 18 million with the prices as they currently are?

Matuidi was going to be replaced in the first team by Rabiot this year, anyway. Good deal all round.

Everton are significantly overpaying for Sigurdsson, even allowing for the bonkers market. He's a good player, but IMO he's one of those players who always looks great in a smaller team. Like Charlie Adam, Joe Allen or Fabian Delph. He's also about to turn 28. He's probably a top 7 player, but I don't think a top 4 one. A step below - if only just - what Spurs should be looking for, ex squad players.
