I get what you mean, if you put us like for like with City... we lack both creativity and the unpredictability factor, it also makes us easier to defend against.

Dier - Defensive and slow
Dembele - strong but slow and zero end product
Alli - not particularly quick and seems to score most of his goals in the box
Eriksen - our creative hub but again, lacks pace and also strength
Son - the epitome of hot and cold
Kane - a great finisher but also one paced

Other than Son none of them offer pace. Whereas our 2 central midfielder offer nothing creativity wise.

Whereas with City:

Fernandinho - defensive shield
D Silva - creative, excellent movement
De Bruyne - strong, free kick specialist and a hell of a shot on him
Sane - pace, trickery and can finish
Sterling - pace and has contributed both goals and assists this season
De Jesus - pace and trickery

5 offensive players whom are all lethal. Don’t get me wrong ours are very good but as an unit they’re one dimensional.
Lamela - creative, excellent movement
Lucas - pace and tickery

I live in Lisbon and have watched Gelson a few times, he's an exciting prospect in a lot of ways. However, my issue with Gelson is that he needs to massively improve his end product. He's a superb dribbler and has electric pace, there's no doubting that, however he can be quite wasteful presented with chances and doesn't always effect the game the way he should. It'd be interesting to see how Poch can develop him in this manner but if we were to spend 50-60m on him I'd be concerned that we'd be getting the best option around for that price.

Having said that he ain't no slacker and he won't shirk defensive responsibilities so Poch won't have to ingrain that into him like he did with Sonny, he takes care of the ball quite well when faced up in his own half so that is beneficial. He could potentially play as the wing back in a 3-5-2.
Every time i have seen him he has looked very exciting but his decision making and final ball has been incredibly lacking. He also seems to have a pretty wild shot that is not all together good. But saying all this i haven't seen that much of him so its interesting to read your comments as they seem to back up my initial thoughts/concerns. Considering his value and the league he plays in, i would not be that wild about signing him. Exciting, im sure, but probably take ages before he becomes useful and worse case scenario he turns into a very, very expensive N'somthing.

Like many, I was all for it last summer when linked, so I've kept more of an eye since.

Exciting no doubt, but hasn't really kicked on in the footballing side of things.

His numbers look good in the goal and assist columns, but have to agree, a bit erratic in his decision making.

Could be quite a player if he could be improved in this department. He's certainly got scope for improvement, and with him currently plying his trade in a somewhat mediocre league, he'll find the Premier league a totally different beast and will certainly need to improve if he is to match his current numbers should he sign for Spurs.

I'm officially in the I'll pass group on this one. Resources would be better spent elsewhere.

Perhaps poch's thinking here is to replace Sissoko with a player like martins or zaha.

To me it means Eriksen will have to play deeper more often.

That plus a Dembele replacement, someone more creative, and we will have a very dangerous squad.
This.
If it’s Martins or Malcom or Zaha whoever, we need one more pacey unpredictable AM and a more attacking creative CM/CDM.

Then we need a decent back-up to Kane and replace Toby and rose if they go.

Then we will be able to not just compete but win things.

Neither of whom are in Poch’s 1st XI.
Also Lamela doesn’t have much pace and very little end product, he can get the odd good assist but he wastes a lot of good opportunities and is the opposite of composed. Sure he’s a good player and puts his heart on the line BUT we need to be ruthless to get to the next level and he like Sissoko and like Llorente aren’t good enough.

I personally think he is overly pedantic-weakness
He's got a stubborn streak.

I think he doesn't like to make early subs, especially, because that might appear to be admittance that the initial 11 selected wasn't right.

Which is why he usually hangs onto it so long before changing.

He has to deal with certain traits before he can become a top, top manager imo.

He' still my guy, but he has to shape up in a couple areas.

The Portuguese league may not be the strongest, but does anyone know how well he's been playing in Europe, or in the National side?

Sky 422 now.

Rafa Silva has been impressive, looks a clone of David and Bernardo Silva.

No disrespect Herc, but when it comes to Spurs 'interest' usually means naff all!!

Plus granted it was only one game but I stupidly watched the whole Sporting v Benfica game last night and saw nothing to suggest Martins warrants his price tag. You could see he has some skill and pace but his decision making was crap and seemed to get his feet muddled up a few times ala Sissoko. The stand out players were for Benfica.

The idea of signing a player like this seems absolutely mental to me. He seems like a good player, but we are absolutely getting our priorities wrong if we are focussing on more players that have question marks over their end product.
