Not everyones favourite paper, or story, but I was shocked by the photos. Get well soon, but how more times will we say that?

Just very sad to see Gazza in such a mess. He gave us all so much joy and pleasure . One of the most exciting players to wear a Spurs shirt in the last 40 years. Just hope he finds the strength , and friends , to help pull him through.

Of course we all agree with your sentiments, but let's face it, things don't look too good for him right now. We said years ago, that he was another Bestie waiting to happen, and I fear that scenario is very soon going to materialise.

Despite legions of professional people and friends trying desperately to help him, I'm afraid nobody can help him now, but he can help himself if he wants to, and of course as we all know, it's not quite as simple as that.

A shadow of his former self. I don't think all the blame should be pinned on him though. The English press have to have a say in that. I'll never forget that Facup semi final. " Is Gascoigne gonna have a crack at it? He is you know. Oh Brilliant!!!!!!!

a prime example of what the media can do in a negative sense for a player.

I agree that in most cases that this invasion of privacy is bad. But is this scenario I believe it's good, hopefully it will scare the youth away from drink. Anyone who doesn't know of gascoigne must think he's almost twice his actual age. If nothing else at least it makes me avoid large amounts alcohol.

He looks terrible for his age, no doubt. ON the other hand, all this hand wringing seems a bit much. Many people struggle with alcohol through their lives and he has spent long stretches sober. I'm not saying it is all a-ok, but the man leads a pretty good life and every time he slips up it is all over the newspapers and the hand-wringing and crocodile tears begin again. I wish him the best with the struggles before him, but the idea that he is necessarily going to drop dead if he falls off the wagon again is a bit much.

And "a shadow of his former self?" Well, he is hardly about to play in a cup final any time soon, I will agree.

I'm not sure we should point any fingers at the media, they're just doing their job. They didn't force alocohol down his throat, he's been drinking since he was a comparitive unknown up in Newcastle, with his mates (Jimmy 'five bellies' etc).

Part of the process of recovery from alcoholism (if there is such a thing as recovery) is admitting that you are solely responsible for your own actions and it's from there that you can address the problem at it's root. It's easy to blame alcoholism on any number of things, but that's just a cop-out, it's you who decides to drink up to the point where the drink inevitably takes over your life and your life-choices.

Seeing those pictures brings home the stark reality for me, and I hope to God I'm wrong, but all those wonderful people trying to help him stop drinking may very well be wasting their time and all their energies now.

Two different people, I know, but George Best even had a liver transplant and his doctors told him if he ever had another drink it could kill him, but not even that stopped him, and we all know what happened next.

I'm dreading the inevitable headlines to come, but when it happens, there'll be only one man to blame, and ultimately, that's Paul Gascoigne.
