Two things worth noting:

1. That reddit post a couple pages back (from someone who sounded like he read the original Spanish story) said Bales salary was 325k/wk, with Spurs willing to pay half. If that’s true, and the other 275k or so are image rights or something else, that’s a much more likely position for us to take financially. 175k wouldn’t break our bank but would make him a top earner, as he would expect.

2. We are reportedly engaging with Madrid on multiple potential sales and purchases - Eriksen, Ceballos, Bale, Diaz - so all talk of transfer fees should be taken with a grain of salt, especially with the Eriksen situation unresolved. There is certainly potential for us to “pay” a higher fee for Bale/Dani and Madrid to “pay” more for Eriksen, and both clubs save a little more face.

Personally, if Madrid aren’t offering what we like for CE and he isn’t likely to sign a new deal if we reject them, I’d have to think that Eriksen for Bale (on similar wages) and a loan-to-buy of Ceballos would be a pretty acceptable outcome for both parties.

Feels like Madrid’s summer spending spree in the first month has caught up with them and they’re reduced to using players as bargaining chips.

I genuinely think there are maybe 2-3 players in the world that could do Eriksen’s job so truly replacing him is out of the question (unless Rakitic, Thiago, or David Silva want a change in scenery...), so this replacement by committee seems to work well for both parties. Financial assistance on Bale will grab the headlines but the linchpin for me is Ceballos as a loan-to-buy and not just a loan.

Pretty conflicted on bringing him back. Even if the financials work, I don’t really think reducing Alli and Lucas’s minutes are in the best interest of the squad long term. Think it’s time for Alli to establish himself as one of the best in the world, would hate for him to miss out on major matches because we put Bale on ice so his hamstrings are ready to go once a month.

English article is up on Marca's website.

Tottenham Hotspur show interest in Bale return

The main objective that Real Madrid had been looking to achieve as part of their clear-out this summer may have found a solution as Los Blancos look to sell Gareth Bale.

It is not just any solution either as Tottenham Hotspur have shown an interest in re-signing the Welshman, who left White Hart Lane to move to the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu in 2013.

The Champions League runners-up have informed Real Madrid that they would be prepared to pay a fee between 50 and 60 million euros.

However, they also made clear to his representatives that the 17 million euros net that he earns each season would not be realistic for the club, who could only afford around half of that.

Now it is Real Madrid who must decide what to do and whether they rescind his contract for the next three seasons to liquidate half of that amount, about 25 million euros.

Zidane doesn't want him
Bale, who celebrates his 30th birthday on Tuesday, has known for some time that Zinedine Zidane is not counting on him for next season and the pair have discussed it, which is part of why Bale would be open to a return to the Premier League, London and a club who gave him a chance to move to the elite level.

Despite that, he is not prepared to give up the three years of contract that he has already signed for.

After a disappointing campaign last year, Real Madrid know that it will not be easy to sell him and there are only 24 days until the Premier League transfer window shuts.

FIFA's Financial Fair Play limits will also require sales to ensure that sales are at least 100 million euros less than their purchases, which currently stand at 300 million euros.

Bale, James Rodriguez and Mariano Diaz are all on the market, and there has also been interest from China in Bale, including from Shanghai Shenhua.

The Chinese club, previously managed by Quique Sanchez Flores, offered him an even better wage than he currently earns in Spain, but would only sign him on a free transfer, which Real Madrid refused to even consider.

I don't know why some of you have to poo-poo people having a bit of a fantasy, it's half of what football is about. You'd have done exactly the same to anyone who said we'd reach the CL final, why not allow people to dream, it's hardly shrewd to say 'never gonna happen', it probably isn't and everyone is aware of that, but if there's a smidgin of a chance.......what's the harm?

Dont know if Levy could pull this off , if he does will be his biggest ever coup. Maybe why he has delayed naming rights details. Would be the statement of intent that Poch was asking for.

I’d love it. We are serious contenders if he were to come back. The boost to the club would be huge. The effect it would have on other teams at the top of the league is immeasurable.

I can’t see us paying the money for him at 30 years old and I suspect it’s all linked to eriksen in some way, but you never know.

Madrid must be getting desperate to move him on. They know the most likely market for him closes in 3 weeks time and after that getting him out is going to be harder. If stories about him coming to the PL were to begin to come out it would be about now. Timescales wouldn’t have it any other way.
