I wish I had your guys confidence in FFP. There was an article on the BBC today saying that they could buy Pogba and still be well within FFP rules, despite having already spent 300 million this Summer.

Despite all the posturing the outcome I think which will be most likely is that Bale will be reintegrated into the Madrid first team. I don't see him coming to us, or going anywhere else. That contract is too good for Bale to walk away from or for most clubs to pick up.

I can’t see anything else happening unless he’s prepared to take a huge pay cut and nothing indicates that’s the case

Madrid can always pay him off as well as receive a transfer fee for him.

If he leaves, it’s more than likely Madrid will give him a nice pay off which will basically subsidise his pay elsewhere

Which won’t be here

Surely they have similar squad limitations to us though re home grown players etc. You can only have so many people in your squad and no one can afford 650k a week to be spent on a player that you don’t want in the squad.

I don't recall specifics but their spend over the last few years has actually been (relatively) very small so they have plenting if scope for spending.

And some big sales including CR7 to Juve...

But these are the reasons they struggled last season.

Latest news coming out of Spain; Bale is in Mallorca and had the entire day scheduled for golf - a few rounds in he hurt his back and will now have to have it checked. Can't really make it up. :cautious:

That’s the bit I’m not sure about. And this is based on absolutely nothing but opinion, of course. But Why would they have to cut their losses? It’s Real Madrid. They’re one of the very few clubs in the world who can absorb another Winston Bogarde situation. They don’t need to sell to buy, do they? And given that they don’t - and that they have their fans completely onside when it comes to Bale - they have no reason to sell him. Unfortunately, I think they’re able to let him play golf.

Madrid have to bring in around £100mil in transfer revenue to meet FFP requirements based upon their purchases so far - and they’ve not finished spending yet. They’re likely going to have to agree some sort of deal where they’ll accept a reduced fee to allow the buying club to pay a large signing-on fee or agree to pay a substantial wage contribution in he’s used as part of a swap deal.

The BBC article was saying that if they amortise the value of all their transfers across the length of the player contracts, they are actually going to be way below the limit, because they haven't spent as much over the past few seasons.

I think the early close to the PL window will scupper us on this. Madrid will try and play hardball til the last minute then ship him off somewhere at the end of August

Aren't all of Europe in line with our window close date now?

This would be correct, assuming FFP follows regular accounting rules (I assume it does).

Purchases hit the income statement as the transfer fee amortizes evenly over the contract tenor. Sales hit the income statement immediately (sales price minus remaining book value of asset).

I was about to post something similar. FFP will be about balancing player wages and depreciation against all revenues, including player sales.

Pinch of salt and that but a mate of mine from Cardiff is mates with someone in Bale's circle of friends (yeah I know, the old friend of a friend crap).
Anyway, he told me about a week ago that theyve all had a bet on GB playing in China next year. When he told me I had a look at Skybet at that outcome was 6/1, but didnt think anything of it.
Had another look Monday and it was 3/1, and as of 5 mins ago it was 6/5.
Probably bs but my mate reckons his pal is genuine

I was going on a half remembered article I'd only really given a cursory look over - cheers for the info. Still dreaming we'll dare to do (if DL can squeeze a good deal out of RM).

his price on the bookies will go down if there are a few bets on it, especially if there are a few 50-100 going on it. it doesn't take a lot of money on a 6/1 to fall to 3/1. if someone went big at 3/1 the bookies would drop it straight away. the minute they see something might happen and money being bet mainly from Wales they won't give too good odds. it's like every season Liverpool's odds for the league always starts off pretty low, because they know the amount of bets that come in for them every season

Except we aren’t interested in him and we aren’t going to pay him 3x Kane’s salary.

Exceptional in this instance means equal to or more than his current deal. There is only one club in Europe stupid enough to offer Bale an exceptional deal (they play in Red, are from the North and not called Liverpool).
