I get where you're coming from and I wouldn't be dead against it if the numbers were right. But on the other hand it would take loads of negotiation and take up a squad place we could be using more wisely on a cheaper/younger option for the future.

Also since Poch has come in I don't think we've signed a single player on loan - I just can't see him making an exception for Bale given his age, workrate, cost, etc.

Counts as home-grown too, got to help with the new quotas?

http://sportwitness.co.uk/option-join-tottenham-table-2-hour-meeting-wednesday/

Short of changing the keys to his locker and revoking his security access to the training ground, there’s not really much more Real Madrid could do to show Gareth Bale they’d like him to leave the club this summer.

The Welshman is being pushed out and now it just seems a question of where he’s going to end up. Florentino Perez and Zinedine Zidane can do all the forcing they want, but if Bale has nowhere to go then it’s going to be impossible.

Marca now report the Tottenham option ‘is on the table’.

Bale is said to have held a meeting with his agent Jonathan Barnett for two hours on Wednesday, and rather than battle with Madrid now is the time to find a new destination.

Whereas previously it had been thought Tottenham wasn’t being considered seriously by the player, things are changing. Bale doesn’t want a ‘soap opera’ of a summer and would rather things were sorted out more smoothly then when he left Spurs.

For some weeks, the Spanish media have been reporting a loan as a possibility, and it could even see Madrid continuing to pay some of his wages.

The question now is how interested Tottenham are, if indeed they’re keen at all. Given Real Madrid’s position over the player, and the current lack of suitors, Daniel Levy may be able to negotiate an impressive, low risk, deal.

Time for let’s make a deal Levy style. There’s a limited market for a player on 600k a week especially if you want it done quickly. Madrid are going to take a hit unless someone stupid comes in with a deal.

Chelsea look the only option. Manure are weighed down by Pogba and Sanchez, Arsenal by Ozil. Man City couldn’t be arsed. Further afield the Italian clubs and Bayern don’t want to break their wage structures.

If this happens, there better be a clause about his hair. That man bun isn’t going to fly here.

same as it was with vdv then. we gave them a price at the start of the window and they came back last minute as there were no other takers. time for levy to get creative again then if it's to happen and can imo only happen as said in addition to our primary targets, not in place of.

The asylum thing is very tongue in cheek, my apologies if it was offensive to anyone, including you. I do value everyone's opinion and didn't mean to hit a cord.
It wasn't offensive at all, its just a bugbear in discussions when people turn to the 'oh if you think this, you cant watch football' shit.

I can see why people want Bale, there are obvious positives. In an ideal world where we have an unlimited budget, injuries are turned off and everything is perfect...yes, sign him up.

But we don't have unlimited cash to spend on nostalgia.

THing is they can sell to Europe long after our window closes. Silly idea really with the early end of the english window.

The PL is the only realistic option for him to leave. I don't think they'd risk him playing in the reserves on £650k a week just in case PSG fancy him at the end of the window.

The point I was trying to make is that In the ideal situation, which is what it would take for this deal to happen, I doubt anyone would say no to Bale.

The chances of that happening are extremely slim and a bunch of factors would have to fall in our favor for it to materialize, then it’s a deal worth doing.

For all the negatives about Bale, he would add a new dynamic to our squad.

I think being booed by his own fans, and mugged off by his team mates and manager in the press can't be an easy environment in which to hit peak form. He's still an amazing player imo.

He has had a lot of injuries, though a loan deal mitigates a lot of that risk. So if terms were at all do-able, here's what swings it for me.

We were prepared to write down £10m per year in fee and wages when we signed a 32 year old Llorente to be a bit part player. £12.1m fee and £75k a week for 2 years.

What is Bale worth to us having a go at our first ever PL title?

@Trix was saying the loan deal on the table would cost around £35m a year including player bonuses.

Depending on how and where you weight the bonuses - minutes played in PL or CL win say - I'd argue it's potentially worth £20-25m + £5-10m stretched target bonuses.

Surely there's a deal to be done, especially if we do become resigned losing Eriksen - which I think the club must have nearly accepted.
I haven't said anything at all regarding Bale.

I remember when Bale went Barnett was nothing but complimentary about Spurs and Levy.

As for Lamela, surely Bale’s versatile to play left right or centre means Pochettino wouldn’t see him as just a winger? He could easily play left or right (he wasn’t on the left under AVB), or partner Harry up front when we go for a diamond midfield. And as both a creative and goals-scoring threat Bale offers infinitely more than Lamela.
He could also play upfront if Kane got injured.

Apologies Trix, it was @Hercules

His wages are ridiculous. RM would do a lower loan deal with anybody, even less than the 10m loan fee mentioned in the press, but the club that takes him would have to cover his wages. Inclusive of all the add-ons, incentives etc, you are looking at paying out circa 3m (give or take) per month. So my opinion is no chance.
