It may not be a pipe dream after all. Though if he goes it will be the one that drags well into the window IMO.

I'd like all our business to be done by the end of July to create a title-winning squad...

...and then add Bale on deadline day as the cherry on the cake

I'm a greedy sod, aren't I

Bale to come in on loan to allow Sessegnon time to adjust/develop. Good season and his stock goes back up, Madrid recoup more money than they would now everyone is happy. Right?

If we got Ndombele Clarke Sessegnon sold some players and got a rb that would probably be the best summer transfer window ever. With Eriksen signing a new deal also

And Toby staying also would be massive the thought of him leaving and not being replaced scared me somewhat .

Definitely feels like a loan is on the cards, Madrid will want to give him a year to build some transfer value (as currently, on that contract, it is close to zero). I think it’s just a question of who will make the best offer, and whether Bale will want to go there. I could see us in at 5-10m loan fee and maybe 150k/wk of his salary - doesn’t sound like much compared to his current deal, but it would save Madrid 12M ish vs paying him to golf, and if he performs well the transfer value for next season rises as well.

Don’t Madrid own 50% of his image rights? Sure I remember someone posting that and wisely suggesting giving them back to Bale would help offset the wages somewhat.

So how would that work if he played for us on loan? I guess it would have to be part of the negotiations - otherwise would Madrid get a cut of shirts with his name on or duvets with his face on?
Would settling this make it even more expensive than it already appears to be?

I don't know why lol but today I'm weirdly optimistic. I can see the longer he stays on there and more involved in pre-season the bigger the outrage getting. They might care more about image than money and sign some ridiculous deal just to get him out the door.

Cheers, Trix.

If thats the case then they're going to have 650k a week sat on the bench doing nothing.

The chances of an English club getting him on loan on the cheap are pretty non existent I’d say, with our window closing before theirs. Had they closed on the same day it would have been much more likely.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see him at somewhere like Bayern Munich with them doing a similar deal like they did with James Rodriguez.

Glad we're not willing to give him stupid money to get him.

We should be signing younger, fitter and more players malleable to Pochettino's way of working. Acting like a big club shouldn't be acting like Manchester United.

The big bucks should be spent on talent like Lo Celso and Ndombele.

If we had every other position covered and our squad was looking really strong, I'd be tempted to bring Bale in for a year on big wages, as the 'final piece in the puzzle' so to speak, so we could have a real go at the title

But I don't think we're going to finish our squad rebuilding project for another 2 or 3 seasons, by which time Bale will be into his 30s

All in all, I could see him staying at Madrid for the rest of his contract and making the odd sub appearance here and there

We aren’t going to trash our wage structure for Bale. Pretty sure we’ve had ITK to that effect, and also that he’s not going to be a last minute VDV type signing.

People have talked about a subsidised loan, but Real seem to be playing hardball, so at present this seems unlikely.

It all feels a little Brexit-y with Madrid and Bale both threatening a scenario with no deal to leave agreed. We will have to see how it plays out.

Agreed.

I would like to say I don't care about Bale coming back, I do - but not at the ridiculous money being required
to make it happen.

Hypothetically, if Real Madrid offered a straight swap for Eriksen and both players wanted it to happen, would you swap Bale for Eriksen?

Definitely not unless we were going to lose Eriksen and get nothing. On the other hand would take Bale and maybe 50m with RM paying three quarters of his wages
