Does that player exist, with any consistency, any more?

And is it worth the opportunity cost? How many other players would we have to forego?

I’m not sold personally, albeit I recognise there’s plenty of appeal!

I did open and close my post saying it doesn't make sense.

My view on the transfer is purely emotional. The financials. His current ability. Motivation, or lack thereof. They've all been discussed to death by posters here already. There isn't anything more I can add to that.

What I can do is try to paint a picture of how having Bale in our team made me feel. I've had few football highs as grand as watching him bulldoze his way through a team and spank it into the top corner with regularity. It was magical to watch and experience. He was a proper player, someone who, to borrow a cliche, 'you pay to go and see.'

If he's too shy to speak Spanish I can't see him moving to Germany and having to learn another language.
I think it's an issue of laziness more than shyness, not that it would really affect anything if he moved back to England. I do think it's pretty poor that he seemingly hasn't made an effort to integrate into Spanish culture though.

Yep. I’ve seen many great players at Spurs in 30 years of watching us live and I feel privileged to have witnessed Bale rip opponents a new one over and over again from my seat in the East Lower.

Sergio Aguero is considered one of the best examples of foreign players to have played in the PL, but his English is pretty basic.

Gareth at his best in our shirt.....

Love him.

That's put me firmly back into the "Bring Gareth home" camp.

Imagine a front 3 of Son-Kane-Bale. We wouldn't even need Eriksen or a replacement playmaker. Just hoof the ball up front and let those 3 machines make their own goals.

To be honest it was a bit tongue in cheek as I think he can speak Spanish well enough. As for integrating into Spanish culture I don't know about that but to be honest if he hasn't bothered he'd be no different to 90% of British expats living in Spain.

I'll give you that. Not that it makes it right though.

Tingles, what a superstar he was. That one season he carried us and if a loan come up and he bought into the Poch mindset i'd love to see him in the shirt again in front of 62k destroying teams single handily.
He was absolutely unreal that AVB season. We played the shittiest, stodgiest football imaginable yet game after game he'd come up with the most incredible goals. I've never been bothered to check, but I suspect he got the record for most outside of the box goals in a single epl season that year.

EDIT: Can't find individual stats, but turns out Spurs scored the most goals from outside of the box in the league those 3 peak Bale years running (10/11, 11/12 and 12/13). Absolute machine.

That one away to West Ham was just stunning!

IIRC, it was on Monday night football as well.

As for Bale integrating into spanish culture, I know it would take a hell of a lot more than 600k per week to make me eat my dinner at 10 p.m.

Like his injury record, I think Bale’s supposed failure to integrate into Spanish culture is exaggerated. I mean how well do most of the non-English players in the PL integrate into British culture? I get the impression that most of them (like most British footballers too) lead cosseted lives far away from what anyone would consider typical. I can’t imagine because they’re living in England it’s all roast dinners on Sunday and meeting Dave down the local on a Friday night for a pint of ale. Also a lot of PL players don’t speak very good English- even a lot of the English players don’t speak English very well!

Checks on site.
Sees lots of new posts on Bale thread.
Gets excited.
Reads 1000th post on speaking Spanish, being great 6 years ago, overstated injury record and huge wages.
Shrugs.
