Ah man, this would really be THE signing to enter the new place with. A statement. A Spurs legend and world class player returning back to the club under a new manager, an entirely new setup and with a squad of massively improved players than when he left. It makes totally sense.

It would be a commercial and football dream.

Shame it probably won’t happen, then :LOL:

Personally I think if we really wanted him we could do a deal but the financial implications with regard the rest of the squad could be the deciding factor when deciding wether or not to pursue this. For a short bald man, Levy can be quite creative when he wants so although my personal feeling is that it won't happen I wouldn't totally rule it out. Football is a funny old game and it's nice to have the odd dream that doesn't involve waking up to find jizz everywhere.

Picasso was short, bald and a touch on the creative side.

(I have no idea how tall Picasso was and don't care enough to find out)

Nah, if you can do it once in a CL final you can do it twice in Manchester, I question your supposition that there would be a sunny afternoon in Manchester though.
I'm not getting this idea that Bale would upset the squad equalibrium and players would get the 'ump, our players are ambitious and Bale coming would be an enormous boost for them, the excitement level would be sky high in the squad. Does anyone seriously think our players would think it was bad because they think he is

Does anyone seriously think our players would think it was bad because they think he is better than them? If so they are not the kind of player I want in the squad anyway.

It was sunny when Rooney shinned it over his head...

I think the point is that the players wouldn't necessarily be pissed off or kick up a fuss, but that when it came to them negotiating extensions they'd be looking for parity. Which could get expensive quickly.

Not sure it would cause issues with other players. He’ll be coming in on less than he’d get elsewhere - just like we have players on less than they could get elsewhere.

Secondly, our players want to win things. That becomes far more possible with a player like Bale. They won’t not want him as a teammate just because he earns more.

Lastly, our players have won f all. He’s just won the CL in successive years, scoring the winning goals in several finals (not just CL). He is worthy of his wage. Until our boys are that successful he fully justifies being paid more

In which case pay him what is reasonable for us but it's not like everyone is paid the same now anyway.

And then we're back to whether what is reasonable for us is reasonable for bale.

I'm not against us trying to get the monkey home at all. I'd love to see him in a spurs shirt again. However the reality of football contracts and fees are so much more complex than we give them credit. I suspect that it could be a long drawn out attempt with odds stacked against us.

Imagine the pace of Moura and Bale with Eriksen picking the passes. We would be very frightening.
Alas the financials will most likely stop this from happening.

End of the day this comes down to Bale. Yes United can offer more but maybe just maybe Bale has his heart set on Spurs.

Financially we’ve earned CL money for 2-3 seasons, the new tv rights money, the increase in income from new stadium. That’s without securing a stadium sponsor. If DL can’t do a deal for Bale now then why bother installing a buyback option.

As I’ve mentioned before there’s a certain figure we need to pay RM, I was told if that figure was met then RM would have to accept.
Obviously Bales personal terms are another matter. Which is why I say this comes down to how much Bale is willing to negotiate a deal with Spurs.

Letting bale sign for UTD would be a real kick in the teeth for us and would increase their chances of catching City and pulling away from us.

It’s all very frustrating the Bale debacle... granted it’s clutching at straws in terms of whether he comes back but the frustrating part is the constant contradictions of we want him, he wants us and we’ve no interest and he wants to stay at Madrid. Whereas his posture and interview says he wants out.

If he’s available then we would be stupid to not go all in for him... if he won’t agree terms then suck it up and move on.

I don't mean to disregard any info but you have to remember though that this isn't pure fact. We don't really know for sure just how much we do have to spend.
Yeah totally get that, but I thought it was Trix (who I replied to) who had said we had £150m. I could be wrong though.

Either way the general point holds that, in my opinion, if we have a genuine opportunity to buy a world class proven match winner like Bale then we have to give it serious consideration, even if it means spending a little more than we're accustomed to.

Point is that just because we have our clause, it doesn't mean that clubs bidding won't create an auction and price us out.

Not sure if this had already been covered, but the clause states we only have to match the first accepted offer, regards of any higher, further offers
