For it to be wishful thinking I would have to be wishing it would happen and I'm more of a Ahh well it will or it won't kinda chap :)

I gave up a well paid job to work for myself it's harder (major understatement) and pays much less and I can't even pull a sickle :(
But I did it because I realised I don't like people I have to work for that much ( also major understatement)
So it does happen even for us poor people.

Ohh I forgot to add I didn't have a bazillion quid in the bank to fall back on either

All you need is a triangular patch of Brazilian field to till.

That still doesn’t sit as the right reason for us to target someone. So what if he’s big name signing? His stock is declining and he plays in our most heavily resourced position. I’m arguing that there are other big name signings out there that would add so much more to the squad despite perhaps not having the same prestige of GB11.

If we have the capacity to address all our issues AND sign Bale, then yeah fair play. My concern is that as the end of the window gets nearer, we’ll be scrabbling around trying to shoehorn in a 3rd – 4th choice CM/Kane backup after wasting time and money bringing in our 6th attacking midfielder (the other 5 are decent!).

Once again, would those other big name players actually want, or be willing to come to little old THFC?

Do we know that, just because they're a big name, they'd be able to perform in the PL?

Would those alternative big names have the attitude & work ethic to train & perform in the manner which Poch expects and demands from his players?

You see, even little me is able to answer "Yes" to the above questions, when it comes to Bale.

I swear some supporters genuinely do believe our club is much bigger than it is & can attract players that it quite simply can't.

Playing devils advocate but why not Chelsea?
Also I fail to see how we can offer Bale more than all the other clubs, unless you're not including wages and chances of winning honours.

I'd love to have him back, you're right about Poch, you're right about our team, but I'm not sure these are the things that really drive players nowadays, money and trophies do unfortunately.
I dont think chelsea are in the market unless hazard was to leave. They r tightening up the purse strings with their new development of ground. Plus would he want to go to another london rival and not just loose loyal supporters in us but turn love to hate. As for honours and success if that is still his drive i doubt it is his priority. He got all that at rm but thats not how i see it. I believe 100 percent we are close with a few more tweeks to winning things. Like a bale signing..He may see that too. As for wages guys drop that. Yes he will have to take a pay cut but thats wherever he goes. We can certainly come up with some ways that could make it possible. There is plenty of tricks can be played with money. So how we can offer him more is the package.
Good wage
Best stadium in uk
Great team
Champions league
Best coach in europe
superstar status
And fans that love him
Titles...thats up to the players

Guys he is on £350k a week after tax. That means we'd have to pay him about £600k a week just for him to break even.
BALE is under contract at Madrid. If he maintains that he doesn't want to leave and they want to sell him, Madrid would have to pay his contract up, or at least some of it.
We wouldn't need to pay him the same as Madrid would still be paying him.

Think Adebayor but with someone who can play football.

This was my thinking, if Madrid no longer want him but he wants to stay they will have to keep paying him until his contract is up and he walks away on a free, alternatively they can sell him, pay up his contract but recoupe that and more in the fee, no doubt this isn't lost on his representative and any prospective buyer and it follows therefore that he will maintain his stance that he doesn't want to leave.

Yes that is a possibility. Another is that he joins a club that can pay his wages. Maybe in an exchange for another world class player from brazil? Or manchester?

Just seems unlikely to me.

The thought that he gives the slightest shit about Tottenham fans is funny mate, he didn't give a monkeys about us when he was trying to get out of the club, and he'd be loved by the fans of whatever club he signs for.
I'm interested what 'tricks' you're referring to with money...as there are 5/6 other clubs in the league that can, and do outspend us regularly.
Can't help but feel you're setting yourself up for disappointment even contemplating it.

Dont know about u's but €65 mil wrote all over it. Straight swap for toby or just bit their arm off

Sounds good but would madrid want a player that couldn't get in the atletico team? Think they'd rather swap for neymar.

Similar to our signing of Van Der Vaart. Real Madrid wanted to offload him and I believe they part paid his wages

Thing is with ade that is why we paid city £5m. They paid part of his wages out of that sum. When it ran out we paid full whack and couldn't get rid of him.

Do you think anyone else will match what he's getting at Real?

Edit: I just worked out what £350,000 a week is, £91million over five years after tax! Jesus Christ that doesn't even include the sponsorship and advertising money he makes.

Do you reckon you could make that image a little bigger? I'm struggling to read it :watching:
To be fair those things are a nightmare to resize on here. I spent about 5 min on posting a twitter screenshot yesterday and finally just gave up.

If madrid do go for neymar psg could although they could get madrid to pay some of it.

We'd really struggle. Not least because the likes of eriksen and kane etc... would want massive payrises.
