and that right there is the problem...100mil looks great and shiny, but spread across 3-4 players buys you fuck all in this market.
Thing is, if we think about this, we need two right now, not three to four ... Split the 100 in half and we're going to break out transfer record twice in succession.

I don't disagree.

I meant it is all great having 100mil but if you don't want to spent a big chunk on one player like you say, nothing can happen.

I could have a billion pounds but if I never wanna spend more than a tenner a time, im getting nothing worth more than a tenner. Im rich with a load of shite from a car boot sale.

It just seems so convenient that the only players Poch feels would improve the squad are either a) being courted by elite clubs thus ruling us out or b) have transfer values of circa 70m thus ruling us out.

I know the market has changed etc etc but surely someone like Maddison who cost 24mil would have been a useful addition, even more so now. Would Poch really have said nah to a young English attacking player with potential? It doesn’t add up to me. Why were we so close to Grealish and now with Villa nowhere near anything special this season haven’t gone back in for him? I just can’t see anything beyond theory we ain’t got no money to spend.

If Poch only has a small list of suitable targets, is spending a big chunk of the budget on one of these players not exactly what he wants us to do (and therefore what we should do)? Rhetorical question, Herc, not expecting you to answer.

Surely it'd be better to spend £60-70m on one player, than spend zero? Feels like we won't get anywhere unless we change the way we operate.
I have removed post!

Can’t decide on a forehand smash or a backhand slide
Just hope your hip doesn't go like old Andy.

Anyway, looks like, depending on these reports mentioned earlier this evening in this thread that de Jong has made his mind up. Wonder how much Barca are going to pay for him? And as someone else said, where that might leave Rabiot? (although he moves on a free I can still see him ending up at Barca)

I also wonder if Rabiot becomes a realistic option now
