I have been an amused reader of Mediawatch on Football365 for a while now, and thoroughly recommend it. It looks at the utter nonsense spouted by the tabloids and rips the piss out of it. I thought I'd share its comments from the last couple of days on the latest campaign against AVB.

First, this from yesterday:
Daily Ridiculous
The Daily Mail's
anti-AVB campaign - led by Chelsea insider Neil Ashton - continues apace with the back-page claim that 'former Roma coach Luis Enrique is the shock name' being considered to replace the Portuguese manager at White Hart Lane.

This tweet from Tor-Kristian Karlsen - former chief executive at Monaco and long-time scout - sums up Mediawatch's feelings: 'The Luis Enrique/Spurs story (Daily Mail) is the most ridiculous piece I've read in quite some time.'

We should probably direct him to the fun times of 'Is Jose the new Di Matteo?'.
Then today we have this gem from the Daily Nazi from Redknapp acolyte Jeff Powell
Description Of The Day
'This curious Portuguese egg' - The Daily Mail's Jeff Powell on Andre Villas-Boas.
..... followed by this, erm, savaging of some insight from Robbie Savage:
Boredom
'Boring, boring Tottenham. There you go - someone needed to say it, so it might as well be me.'

Congratulations to Robbie Savage for having the cojones to say what everyone else has been saying for three months now in his column for the Daily Mirror.

'I'm not interested in how Tottenham got on in the Europa League last night,' writes a man who is paid to watch football. 'I don't care if they saw the Northern Lights or if they managed to build any snowmen in the Arctic circle.

'Ultimately, Villas-Boas will be judged on whether they qualify for the Champions League.'

Hang on, Mediawatch was sure Savage was already judging AVB on Spurs' style of play just a moment ago. Huh.

The problem with writing a Friday column is that everything you have to say has already been discussed at length throughout the week and, despite Savage's 'unique' take on things, his stale perspective offers nothing new on the problems at Spurs.

'AVB spent £110million on a major overhaul of his squad, and it was always going to take time for seven new signings to bed in at White Hart Lane,' he continues.

'But I don't think he is getting the best out of them.'

Well, no s**t. Mediawatch was under the impression that everything was fine and dandy at White Hart Lane.

'Based on what I've seen so far this campaign, they have no chance (of qualifying for the Champions League)' writes Savage, despite tipping Spurs - who are only two points from fourth - to finish in the top four at the start of the season.

And who said football pundits are fickle?
Then topped off with more from the walking parody that is Jeff Powell:
Curious Egg'
Andre Villas-Boas considers himself immune at Tottenham, writes Jeff Powell in the Daily Mail.
'Not with only nine goals scored in 12 Premier matches this season. Not when he is giving Jermain Defoe, one of the most natural of English finishers, hardly any playing time while getting ready to ship him off to the MLS in January.'

Mediawatch would suggest that Defoe didn't appear quite so 'natural' when he scored just once for Spurs in 17 matches at the end (well, the middle to the end, truth be told) of last season.
Wonderful stuff.

And there are some who still think the media have no agenda against AVB , It started the day we sacked Redknapp and gave AVB the job.

Love the way they are portraying him always with a vacant expression!

The scum English media has had an agenda against Villas-Boas since the day he joined us and unfortunately some gullible Tottenham fans are falling for it.

Nothing to do with the unprecedented hideousness of our football then? The humbling defeats at home to second rate teams. The hopeless thrashing we were handed by Man City. The six goals from open play in twelve games.

Alarming as it may be for you, I think most fans are capable of concluding the we suck terribly without bothering to read the Daily Mail.

Disagree, most fans are too ignorant to have opinions of their own and just follow whatever is in fashion.

This forum is a prime example and we don't suck terribly as you put it, 2 points from 8 games I would class as sucking terribly, not 20 from 12 which is one of our best ever points tally at this stage the season.

We won a few games in a row at the start of the season and Villas-Boas was God's gift to football, now we lose a few in a row and he hasn't a clue, I just wish our fans would grow up and see the bigger picture

Well, I disagree. And I'd say it's rather regrettable that you seem to hold our manager of 14-15 months in higher esteem than your fellow fans.

There is no media agenda.... Just the media. And they hire people like Robbie Savage who says stupid things and Neil Ashton who is so biased he should be stripped of any Journalism degree (if he has one).

Ugh, I can't stand that "most natural goal scorer in the league" shite you hear about Defoe.

By natural do we mean manure? If so, bang on! He sprays manure all over he pitch, usually from offside.

I am afraid that is modern football for you, all now now now.

But it's not just football to be fair, it's the modern X-Factor Celebrity Reality Twitter generation.

No patience, no rational, no loyalty

I think it's more than that. Aside from Bale's heroics, our football was just as heart-breaking last season as it has been this. The vast majority were willing to overlook this last year in the interest of patience. However, those who were disheartened by our football last season have been shown no sign whatsoever that things are likely to improve any time soon.

How long do we wait before we start to think that maybe, just maybe, this squad is capable of producing much more than the current manager is able to get out of it?

Just off the top of my head, we played the eventual champions off the park in 3 out of 4 halves of football against them last season with Bale not really making that much of a contribution. I know there were many other instances of us playing very well without the influence of Bale so just maybe our current 'predicament' does have rather a lot to do with the fact that we have so many new players.
