Behind a paywall but mirrors alot of the conversations that have been happening in here.

It of course completely overlooks the fact that when the size of a football pitch was first designed the average height of a man was 5ft 5...
I dont subscribe to the needs to be smaller argument, especially when people are getting bigger...
And just to ram the point home completely, there were plenty of 5ft players. But of course history forgets this point because its not fashionable.
My grandfather was a professional footballer, played in the english league, he was the outstanding height of 5ft 6 in 1939. Didnt stop him playing in front of 20,000 people, or scoring.

I'd bet you any money than a professional women athlete can run faster than an 1882 man... hang on lets look it up and check.
Well it turns out in 1904 the gold medal winner ran 11 seconds flat. The womens record is held by flo jo set 20 odd years ago at 10.49.
So in all probability the usa womens football team could probably hold its own or beat the spurs 1901 cup team. Of course we cant test or prove it. But modern training makes a big difference to performance on a pitch.

For all the talk of smaller pitches and goals (which i don't disagree with) that is going around when you watch Thailand vs....well anyone. The issue is very clearly the massive differences in talent, athleticism and coaching....

Watch the Swedes close down, they just are better coached on when and how AND they are just plain faster than the Thai players. They close ground far faster than any of the Thai defenders.

In attack the swedes have clearly been coached on spacing and creating opportunities and the Thai.....well they looked shocked they had the ball and completely lost as to what to do when they were trying to go forward.

Not sure a smaller pitch or goal makes the Thai any more capable of not getting thrashed by a decent side in this cup....

The thais problem is they're too defensive, theres no out ball when they get possession. They have a decent (for them) hold up attacker but they've tired themselves by running half the pitch to mount an attack.
They should go 4-4-2, and at least have a chance of breaking out. If they lose 10-0 they lose 10-0, but sat on the edge of the box defending permanently doesnt look good.
More width, if they're smaller in stature pass the ball play possession , push up, and tire the opposition out chasing it. Lots of 3v2 passing drills.
So what if they pass it around the backs and the odd midfielder. They need to get some control of the game.

Seeing the replay of the second goal, why did VAR not over-rule on the award of the corner?!? Is that not the point of the system, to resolve clear and obvious mistakes!?!?
