He was not that bad today, did a lot of things right but he needs to get his timing back. I think people are too hard on him.

I thonk you're right. We can't be too hard on him as it was one game. He's a good player.

But let's not pretend he was anything but terrible today. A car crash of a game.

The people here claiming we are judging him off ‘one game’ understand that we have also watched him in all the other matches he has played for us (and been, on the whole, bad) right?

We unfortunately don’t have any matches coming up against Tranmere, so I’m struggling to see how him playing can be seen as an opportunity to right the ship/find some form.

I honestly don’t understand how people expect a footballer who’s barely been given any game time aside from games against championship and league one teams or the odd sub appearance to instantly perform when put into the 11. The sheer naivety of some fans to expect a 33 year old striker with limited capabilities and barely any game time over the last 2 seasons to perform to a standard we expect of Kane is baffling.

Similar to Janssen. When Kane was injured or rested he was thrown in and expected to perform when he was hardly given any tame and wasn’t match sharp.

Anyone playing deputy to Kane will have this problem and which is why we won’t sign an out and out striker. They won’t get any game time. Which is why the likes of Werner or son is perfect as they can play alongside Kane and deputise when needed.

Wow, there are some real idiotic comments here about a player who has won more than the whole of the rest of the squad put together.

The man is obviously rusty and no-one will be more disappointed than him.

I would have thought some people would have learned not to rush to judgements after some of our player experiences over recent years.

What bizarre logic. It doesn't matter what he was won in the past, because now he is 33 and is woeful. He only ever looks like scoring against league one opposition, in the PL he's been pretty much 100% rubbish for Spurs. We all know we aren't going to find another striker as good as Kane to be a back up, but the drop off in quality from Kane to Llorente is beyond ridiculous. It's typical Levy, doing things on the cheap that we rely on Llorente as a back up striker.

He might improve on today's showing because frankly he can't get any worse, but I genuinely fear for us in the games against Chelsea in the league cup, and the PL games, if we have this guy playing up front.

Rusty or just not bothered! He has been paid well for sitting on his ass yet that's cool as we have Kane, however when he is needed he should have performed better. Rather get rid of him and give some one else a turn to look average. Someone at the start of their career rather than the end may have more hunger!

Agree. The difference with Janssen is that he has had plenty of match time, whereas Llorente has not. Moura is still a major doubt so it looks like Llorente will have to be selected and probably N'Koudou as well. As a reminder to the Llorente bashers I would point out that there were one or two others on the Spurs' team today who were pretty grim, especially in the first half.

Not being funny but if he’s not on the pitch winks doesn’t score. Llorente is the type of player that needs a run of games. He hasn’t even been getting 20mins when we’re 3or4 nil up. We’re gonna need him so just get behind him.

N'koudou has had even less game time than llorente and managed to do more in 5 mins than llorente did in 90. It's not that he didn't perform to the standards of Kane, it's that he didn't perform to the standard required of a premier League striker. Ryan Babel put llorente to shame. Ryan. Babel.

He was rubbish today, and I was angry with him during the match but I feel we are being a bit harsh with him. Goal aside, Eriksen and Dele were just as bad, Lamela was also dreadful and Trippier.

He is quite rusty and had no pace around him today. I know Tranmere are way below PL level but he was good against them in the cup. He had Son to feed off against Tranmere but no one today.

I remember people were slating Sissoko a few months back but he won us round and hoping (optimistically!!) Llorente might do the same. He is a Tottenham player and I think we need to get behind him.

Was a complete waste of space and ultimately has been a disappointing signing.

Had 2 great headed chances, his supposed skill.

One off his shoulder, the other like he was scared to head it.

Obviously confidence had gone and think Poch missed a trick by not taking him off and giving sterling a run out.

We could still be playing now and Llorente would not have scored.

I’d see if a short term loan for ibrahimovic was possible and offload Llorente.

Looking at another angle, if he wasn’t on the pitch, we wouldn’t have had that OG. However to be fair, there were a number of our players that were below par today.

We really missed Son today as we had no one making the runs to stretch the defense and open up space for others. Dele did a couple of times but he is much better arriving late. In combination with Llorente being much less mobile than Kane, it really cuts down the lanes for Eriksen, etc. to pick out passes.

He was a bit shit today but id continue playing him. He is a focal point for us and will certainly play better than he has done today

Would he benefit from having Moura play alongside him? I didn’t get to do watch today’s game, so I didn’t see.

No option but to play him with Kane, Alli and Son unavailable. Sounds as though Moura could be back for Chelsea and think that will help Llorente. He needs a pacey/direct option to play in and around him imo, and none of Alli, Eriksen or Lamela are that type of player. Doesn't really excuse his misses today but having Moura playing may possibly help get more of him.
