“Growing up a Spurs fans and being at the club since the age of eight, I obviously planned to spend most of my career at Spurs," Townsend is quoted as saying by the Sun.

“So of course it was disappointing. I would have liked a better exit.

“But now I just have to move forward and try to build a career here.”

Unfortunately we just outgrew you. If you could listen to (& enact) instructions you could be a hell of a player. Newcastle is a fresh start for you and I'm sure 99% of Spurs fans genuinely wish you all the best.

Loved watching him at youth level and finally making the first team. I think there is a great player in there, it's a shame we won't get to see it or couldn't quite make it work. We almost lost Lamela in the summer and he's one of the first on the team-sheet, I was hoping that Andros could force his way in too. That little scuffle with the coach seemed to be the nail in the coffin.

He's a Spurs lad so I wish him all the best, hopefully he does brilliantly. There are a lot of forums that think we got a great deal, but for a young Englishman with England caps it's a pretty good deal. I think Shelvey and Townsend on their day are excellent players

I think he is a talented boy. I think he has had a rough ride by some supporters compared to some. Like most wingers he is not and probably never will be consistent but he has enough to his game to provide goals and score a few. Its a shame its not going to be at Tottenham and I think he will do pretty well at Newcastle they like a winger and though he might not be absolutely top class I think he puts a decent shift in.

Yeah Newcastle fans saying he's rusty and all he's doing is cutting inside and making ineffective shots...get used to it. That's not rust - that's his game.

Townsend on the left is far more of a threat than on the right; I hope he does well at Newcastle and that probably starts by playing on the correct wing.

He played on both yesterday. Switched with sissoko.

Admittedly I haven't seen him play for Newcastle but judging from what their fans have said he played on the right against Everton and they were happy with the threat he offered from the left yesterday.

He did a good job on both flanks tbf, but yeah, very good work from the left. His corners were great as well.

Pleased for him.

Saw Townsend tonight for Crystal Palace against Cincinnati. He did not disappoint. He almost hit row zed.

To be fair, he also had a great shot deflected just past the post by a diving keeper.

He was primarily playing on the right.

I had a soft spot for Andros as I always do when they are one of our own.
BUT
Every time I think of Townsend I think of this. Particularly Danny Rose's reaction.

I thought this an apt time to review Andros' greatest Spurs performance...

I do think as fans we missed a trick not chanting this when it first appeared I think it would've been good for the players in the vid IIRC they were on the fringes/wheeled out for Europa games about that time.
