In a way I do have some sympathy for Sissoko. I really don't feel his been that bad he came at the last minute to be fair he was never going to just turn it on with the way Pochettinho sets up, players not used to Pochettinho methods. it would take any player time ie Son Janssen N'koudou ...but because of the fee (again let's be fair here, had nothing to do with him) the spot light is upon him immediately.

Personally if he stayed at Spurs I still believe he'd be a decent squad player

However, I think there is little chance of a reconciliation. The fact that he is left out of the pre-season tour indicates he is no longer in Poch's plan. As such, though I personally would like Sissoko to be given more time, it may be best to use him as a make-weight to get a player that Poch likes, i.e. Barkley.

Is this typical 'journo' mischief or possibly having a ring of truth?

There is no denying that there have been times when this guy looked really good. However, there have been times when he looked far from good. The likelihood is that he is somewhere in the middle. If that is so then any club aspiring to be a genuine top class club, like THFC, surely it is not and never will be for him. The strange thing is that Everton who have publicly stated that they will be going for a top 4 place in the EPL apparently having him on the radar. For aspiring clubs with a genuine belief they can make top 4, this guy with his track record with us last season, comes over as an average bench player who never really showed his worth when given a chance.

Hence my question - is it typical 'journo' mischief?

Sadly, it was when he was with Newcastle as we found out to our cost on the final game of the season before last. As I said, my view is it is likely he will be in the middle, ie average. I, like others, are giving him the benefit of the doubt as, without regular continual starts, it is not the easiest of things to always produce your best. It was unlikely he would have been given more opportunity last season due to the strength of our side. He obviously had more confidence in himself that he could force himself into a regular first team player but it was not to be.

This is probably wrapped with the Barkley transfer, Everton will drop the £50m price if we loan them Sissoko. Just hope levy inserts a clause that its permanent if he plays more then 30 seconds. Good player but his playing style just doesn't fit.

I know what you mean. He's not been terrible, he just isn't that good, but anyone who had seen him outside the Euros knew that I suppose. He didn't pay 30m for himself.

Still stands out as a really odd buy. Regardless of whether you thought he would kick on or not, or tried to be positive and get on board or whatever, breaking our transfer record for someone who had shown so little quality up to that point outside one tournament and who had just been relegated with his club is genuinely baffling.

I smell the illusive swap deal on deadline day.

I can't remember which game it was but he had the biggest mare of a game I'd ever seen. Couldn't keep the ball. Knocked it out of play. Lost possession. Everytime. It was sooo bad i felt sorry for him. Like something else was happening to affect him. A stinker like that and a few lack lustre performances and it's nearly impossible to come back from. Especially with competition in squad that won't buy you the time to claw it back.

I agree with this totally but money is the issue. If he'd cost 8m and was on half the wages almost all of us would be calling for him to get more game time. At his price he's got to contribute, and while I also think some criticism is over done he's had long enough, cost enough and done too little. Everton were linked with him before maybe there's some sort of part exchange deal for Barkley we can do? Sadly he won't be valued at 30m in any deal.
