Christian Eriksen has confirmed the worst kept secret at Tottenham: that he wants to take on a new challenge at another club this summer. The 27-year-old Denmark midfielder, who has been at Spurs since 2013, has one year to run on his current contract and has shown no inclination to renew for another cycle in north London.

Interesting paragraph:

“It all depends on Daniel Levy and there has to be another club too. Or I will sit down myself at the table and negotiate a new contract. You can’t set a date yourself. There aren’t many boxes that Tottenham don’t tick so if I have to move away, it would have to be a step up.”

So he wouldn't be looking to run down his contract and go for free. As he says he will only leave for one of the relatively few clubs that are a step up. Have to wait and see if the offer comes in.

That's a shame but he's been great for us and I wish him well.
Poch will miss him?
Is better than PSG IMO

Are PSG a step up? They play in an inferior league that they win at a canter every year and they have vast amounts of money, but there isn't much of a challenge there.
Guess he would get to win league titles and with the quality of player there could compete in the CL.

Could have won the treble treble at Celtic but it doesn't mean anything. I think he'll go to Spain or stay here.

PSG's interest will push his price up though, Levy will feel he holds all the cards here but if Eriksen really wants to go then it has to be done soon so we can replace him before pre-season. We don't want to lose him on a free next summer.

A team with their wealth and league quality means they can rest players in the league before CL games.

If PSG were not an attractive club to play for they wouldn’t have players of the quality they have.

I don't see Eriksen in the same 'mercenary' catagory as a lot of PSG's players. Could be wrong.

Gutted if he leaves as he has averaged 8 goals and 10 assists over his 6 years in the Premier League alone.

If he's going, get it done quickly. Don't want this dragging on all summer.

If you want to write off everyone who plays for PSG as a mercenary then fine.

But given their location and wealth they can attract players of the quality required to compete in the CL

Personally don't see him fitting in at the Spanish giants so PSG may be his best option (or Germany)

Has he tried the challenge of beating the first man? :sneaky:

Nah, good luck to him, deserves to win it all

If he is to go I hope it's not to another Prem side, although I suspect Danny might tell him he's staying for another season.

The best outcome for Spurs here, IMO, is to help him get a move that's within our value range and move on.

He's been great for us, but his aloof approach to footy and life, which is admirable, is also holding him back. I don't think he'll ever be the consistent dominating ball player I'd hoped he'd become.

We'd need a really good technical player to replace him, and not some badge thumping donkey. We need both the skill and commitment to win, not one or the other.

Strikes me as the kind of player who will only leave if the right club comes along, probably wants the two Spanish ones, can't see him going anywhere near PSG.
