Obtaining a Champs League spot undoubtedly was the club's ultimate goal for the past season. However after being, deservedly, in second place for quite some time I and I'm sure 99% of our fans expected us to finish above the arseanal. Not to do so IMHO is as unacceptable now as when we were thrashed by the bar codes at the end of the season. I'm a big fan of Mauricio but he and the players royally screwed up.

If one of our players thinks it's infuriating to finish below that lot, he ought to try living and working anywhere near the red scum.

You can also look at this the other way. All the talk until after the Chelsea game was about us winning the league. Even Pochettino kept saying we were still in it. He also said talk of finishing above Arsenal was small club mentality. When the man at the top is talking like this then it's not surprising that our intensity in those last 2 games dropped off. Of course, not having Alli and Dembele revealed shortcomings in our squad depth that probably would otherwise have got us 2nd comfortably. That may even be a good thing in terms of recognizing we need a couple of new signings.

Contrast this with Ranieri who kept talking down Leicester's title chances until it was mathematically done. Poch can learn from that.

Personally I am more than happy with 3rd and not too hung up about the Arsenal thing. I agree with the small club mentality thing. But it means a lot to many of our fans and even though Poch did a fantastic job over the season hopefully if we are in the same position next year he will publicly downplay rather than overrate our chances of winning the title.

Exactly. Pochs comments were frankly stupid and a big mistake.
You do not tell players 'it doesn't matter.'
And even though we were missing Deli and Dembele I think its fair to say our squad is deep enough to beat a piss poor down to 10 men relegated team. Them missing had very little to do with it imo.
As Poch said 'they were on the beach' but that was down to him.
He's a young manager and hopefully he learnt from it but I'm not a professional football coach and I still knew it was a mistake as soon as he said it.
And thanks for bringing it up again Christian just as I'm starting to quell my anger

The fact that Dembele and Alli were both missing due to needless off the ball fouls makes the end of season collapse all the more galling.

I'm not happy about it but I am far more disappointed we did not win the title.

Talk is cheap. If the players are really as upset about it as they are making out then they should learn from it and never switch off again.

Guess we'll find out in time whether the players and manager have actually learned from it or not.

Bar 1 or 2 they don't give a shit. I doubt very much Eriksen is losing any sleep over it or has even given it a second thought.
